As it was rumored earlier this week, Microsoft has now announced that it will be parting ways with Bungie, at least in terms of being a division of the corporation. Microsoft will still continue to publish and work with Bungie on other Halo-related projects.
“Our collaboration with Bungie has resulted in ‘Halo’ becoming an enduring mainstream hit,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “While we are supporting Bungie’s desire to return to its independent roots, we will continue to invest in our ‘Halo’ entertainment property with Bungie and other partners, such as Peter Jackson, on a new interactive series set in the ‘Halo’ universe. We look forward to great success with Bungie as our long-term relationship continues to evolve through ‘Halo’-related titles and new IP created by Bungie.”

This is great! Now Bungie
This is great! Now Bungie won't have to just make games for the 360 and vista! YAY!
great?? i don't wanna see a
great?? i don't wanna see a the next bungie on a PS3, that would suck
Thats bad kick. Now they can
Thats bad kick. Now they can make games for the competition.

On the plus side, if Bungie
On the plus side, if Bungie wants to give new maps for free, they can do that without having to charge
On the negative side, they can publish games for the other consoles which wont make it as special, thus giving any stupid fanboy zealot ammo
This kinda sucks in my eyes.
This kinda sucks in my eyes. I remember when halo was going to be Mac exclusive and super excited about it. When microsoft bought it and I heard halo was coming out for the xbox I again became super excited. Now that bungie can publish on other consoles well I feel I am let down again. No way will I buy a bungie product that isn't exclusive, it's the reason I have stuck with xbox for so long (that and I love the games they are coming out with still) so unless they still stay exclusive I am going to be super sad.
I don't have any doubt that
I don't have any doubt that Bungie will continue to stand by the Xbox 360 as their platform of choice, but now they'll have more freedom in how to handle their projects and more importantly, what kind of projects. I'm sure the people at Bungie would like to take a stab at something besides Halo after nearly eight years straight.
Maybe they'll go back to Marathon or Myth or come up with something entirely new, but since they're still in a publishing deal with MS, I don't see them developing anything for another platform, for example.
I'm actually glad to see
I'm actually glad to see that Bungie has taken the initiative to do this. I'm sure they want to be free of Microsoft forcing them to milk the Halo franchise, and I bet this will lead to some great games, hopefully something completely new.
I will be super mad if they
I will be super mad if they ever make anything for the PS3.
Why do you guys care if they
Why do you guys care if they make for other consoles? This is the company you supposedly love, why shouldn't you let it grow on other consoles?
Its not a personal insult to you, and the 360 will more than likely be the console they mainly develop for. Hardware isn't inherently evil or bad or something, you guys need to stop acting like it is.
"Split" is an over reaction.
"Split" is an over reaction. Microsoft still have a VERY small part of bungie I realy dont think you will see a PS3 game from them, gamers realy wont see a difference most of their stuff will be for Microsoft they said so them selves you just might see a DS game from time to time. Microsoft still gets to publish all their stuff.
This is very good news:
Bungie: Win
Microsoft: Win
I really see this as too
I really see this as too late. Bungie was about to make it really huge with Halo when M$ bought them out. Maybe with their later smash hits they'll get the same fame.
I think this a good thing,
I think this a good thing, because like DrPepper 6pk said, it could enable them to give away maps for free. On the down side though, this could enable them to make games for other consoles, which isn't so bad, but putting Halo on the PS3 would be like betrayal. Still, I think this is a good thing for Bungie, and I hope it brings them success in the future.
in the recent BWU, they said
in the recent BWU, they said you wont notice any BIG differences.
I think it should be noted
I think it should be noted in very large text, because people still seem to have missed this very important point:
Halo, The Master Chief, and everything else in the Halo universe is 100% owned by Microsoft. Even if Bungie completely disconnected itself from Microsoft, you would NEVER see a Halo game on any other console. Microsoft has the rights to it. Bungie can't make a Halo game without Microsoft's green light!
This is nothing but a good
This is nothing but a good thing.
Halo would never have come about without Microsoft because Bungie was in the dumps when they were bought. The Mac crowd had deemed Halo as a failure at MacWorld. However MS saw the potentional and not only funded the project, but gave Halo the chance to be the Launch title for the Xbox.
Now Bungie is on their feet as a company with a ton of respect in the industry and able to use their creative talents without limits.
Think of Microsoft as the father and Bungie as the son. Bungie just had its 18th birthday on Sept 25 and now Microsoft is sending them out into the world.
LOL, I would never think of
LOL, I would never think of M$ as the father... (Unless its like "Luke...I am your fatherrrr" kind of father)
well...I guess that argument
well...I guess that argument works.
