Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack announced
Last week over at bungie.net, the Bungie Weekly Update hinted at something big dropping this week, and here it is!
After launching to incredible acclaim and fanaticism, “Halo 3” players will be able to enjoy three all new multiplayer maps on Dec. 11 as part of the Heroic Map Pack, the first in a series of downloadable content from Bungie Studios to come via Xbox LIVE.
These maps will be available on the XBL Marketplace for 800 MS points ($10) and include Standoff, Rat's Nest and Foundry—all fully customizable in Forge. Also of note, these maps will available for free in Spring 2008.

Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, each map presents a totally different play style. Standoff’s symmetrical valley, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types, while Rat’s Nest’s vast, labyrinthine passages bring something new to the “Halo” multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise, strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, ideal for big team battles. Finally, Foundry is the ultimate Forge map – players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, place stairways, walls, bridges and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map they can think of.

Rat's Nest: Driveable Pelican or scenery? In other news...this map pack will be sure to lead to me not being able to play almost all the playlists due to the fact that these maps aren't free right away.

I don't think its flyable since its an indoor level so it has to be scenery. Wow Standoff IMO will be a fav. To me it looks like a mix between Coag, Sidewinder and Timberland.

First off let me say that I am surprised as to how fast this DLC is out. It's not even gonna be 3 months before we get 3 new maps... The first DLC maps for Halo 2 took alot longer, and I was kinda expecting that kind of wait for new stuff. But this is amazing... Standoff is gonna be fun...the bunkers remind me alot of Call of Duty, but the landscape reminds me of Star Wars. The coolest thing is that Valhalla is a huge map to play CTF on, kinda like Blood gulch, or Coagulation, but Standoff is gonna be the same great experience, only much smaller. Which should cause some insane Multiflag games. Rat's Nest pic doesn't show much, but it does say on Bungie.net that it will be added to BTB. So that means there will be some great indoor, "He's right behind the crate with the sword" moments. It also said that there is a perfect place to put a mongoose race map on the outside, so they might add this map to the Rocket Race playlist. And last but certainly not least, Foundry. It is gonna be awesome to use this level in Forge. I love Forge, and I'm sure I'll spend man hours testing out ideas for maps and gametypes on this level.
