What’s New at Podtacular: Podcast Refresh

It’s time to let the cat out of the bag with the podcast changes. MMMRRROOOWW

New Show Rotation

  1. Champagne and Caviar – until we can think of a better name. All about campaign (a.k.a. champagne, nod to the old school): campaign scoring, the story, the levels, the A.I., the madness. We talk about how to get the highest campaign score in all the land.
  2. Callins and Tales from the Foxhole – First off we have the return of voice mails narrated by CapnKrunk. We play back the voice mails you leave at 206-888-HALO and joke around about them. Then we read back your tales from Halo pwnage. I bet now that we got forge and way more customization this is gonna get LOCO EN LA CABEZA!
  3. Customs and Creations – now that the floodgates have opened with custom game options, it’s time to get creative. This is where we read off a bunch of cool customs from the community. We also talk about your favorite forge edits. Sometimes you need both for the full enchilada. What’s cool is that now we can give out your gamertags and others can download the customs and map edits instead of having to put in all the rules! HOLY JEEBERS! We look forward to seeing what you guys can come up with.
  4. Map of the Month – This show is all about STRATEGERY. We talk about how to kick arse on one multiplayer map, all broken down by game type or just general tips. This is where we help you level up and stay there.

What?? A regular schedule? Surely you jest!!

For realz, we’re back to a regular calendar. Every week you can expect to see us asking for stuff for the next show on Mondays, firm. So now you know every week if you drop by Tuesday, you’ll see what’s up for the next show and be able to submit your comment! Also, every week, we’ll be releasing shows on Sunday nights, every week… only exception is an early release this week. How cool is that?! You can depend on content every week on the same day!

It’s all about getting back to the podtac roots, people.

This is what Podtacular should be and will be for a long time. Welcome back to the golden years. To buff out the gold we’ll also be adding shiny new intros, outros, bumpers, all that audio bling bling to make the show fresh again. Welcome back, Cotters!

What’s New at Podtacular: Events

This is the first in a series of posts talking about how Podtacular is stepping up to the plate for Halo 3. In the heyday of Halo 2 we had plenty of regular events for people to join in with. It’s time to bring that back with a vengeance! Here’s some of the events being worked on right now:

  • Godtacular Bible Study – hosted by Chuckie J. Chuckie leads studies in Halo 3 lobbies now. They’re really good for Christians trying to grown in their faith or for people that want to check out what Christianity is all about.
  • Custom Saturdays – hosted by Sqweryl. These will be regular events to show off some cool customs people have come up with, have a great time playing, and meet some new friends. Coming soon!
  • Podtacular Marines – hosted by Hazard. Play with friends at Podtacular competitively in matchmaking or meet new ones while kicking butt!
  • MLG Crew – hosted by Kiaffex. Once MLG rules are solidified for Halo 3, this group will be playing MLG rules games for ultimate competitive play without the random matchmaking encounters. Coming soon!
  • 4-Player Co-Op Tournament – hosted by Dialpex. An open tournament to the Halo Nation played on Mythic difficulty. Can you compete with the best?

That’s just the start, there’s more on the way that aren’t solidified yet. Got an idea for a one-time or regular event you want to run at Podtacular? You can do it, it’s not that hard. Here’s some tips on how to get one rolling. So whether you want to start an event or join in on one, be sure to check these out when the forums reopen shortly. I’ll update this post with links to these and other events when available.

Podtacular community: ImpulsiveNinja needs our help

I received a heart-wrenching email from AuroraX this morning:

Hey Foo Mo. One of the members here called ImpulsiveNinja (real name Jason Huffstutler) is going through an extremely rough time in his life. He is 17 years old and his dad is dying. His dad has had hepatitis for years now, and it has finally overtaken him. He is in the hospital in a coma and on life support. He will not be able to recover, and the only way he will live is if he stays in a coma and on life support for the rest of his life. Their family has made the incredibly hard decision that his suffering should end, and they took him off of life support today. He is sedated so he will not feel anything and he will pass peacefully, but he isn’t expected to live more than 24 hours. Jason aka ImpulsiveNinja has been a member of the community for a little while now, and he really looks up to you and the other leaders here, and it would mean a lot to him if the podtacular community did something kind for him during this terrible time. I don’t mean anything big, just something so that he knows we are there for him during this time.

Jason could use our help. What I plan on doing is making a collage card of some type with names, notes, and graphics from his friends at the Podtacular community. If you would like to add something to the card, please put it in the comments along with your gamertag and/or name. If you would like to send a graphic please send it to podtacular@gmail.com. I’ll add all of these up shortly and send them to Jason to let him know we care. And please, if you’re a praying person, pray for Jason and his family in this extremely difficult time. AuroraX will be visiting him soon and will keep us updated.

UPDATE: ImpulsiveNinja sent me this message:

Hey foomo, I can’t thank you guys enough for what you are doing. I thought i should let you know. Tonight, at 9:00 P.M. (today is September 1st) my father passed away.

Gamertag Radio gets temporarily shut down and ransomed by greedy web host

Godfree at Gamertag Radio just informed us that Gamertag Radio has been shut down without warning by his hosting company and held at ransom to bring it live again. Here’s the email they sent him:

Your site gamertagradio.com was suspended because it consumed an
excessive amount of resources.
One of our techs was doing a routine check on the server, and your
site was consuming
more than 4.62% of the servers RAM, more than 1.93% of the server CPU
and more than 14% of the server MySQL resources.
Our policy is 10% of the entire servers resources.

O RLY? Maybe you could have told him about this hidden fee so he could decide whether he could afford the price hike before you instantly dropped his site after four years and demanded more money to bring it back up? That’s what I call extortion. If you’re with me, why not contact midphase and leave them a poignant note about their shady business practices?

UPDATE: Liquilife at Uncle Gamer Radio is temporarily hosting Gamertag Radio until they get a new host. It still sucks what Midphase did to him though.
