Podtacular 442: Gungoosed

With just under two months to go until the release of The Master Chief Collection, we are still getting a trickle of news branching across the internet.  This week’s new course on the menu is the Zanzibar remake with Gungoose gameplay and new campaign footage from Cairo Station and Delta Halo.  Halo 2 Anniversary is looking stunning and we can’t wait to get our hands on it.  Also part of this week’s Halo Bulletin, Dan Ayoub talks about some of the notable graphical differences in Halo 3 and Halo 4.

Podtacular 441: The Pax Prime Lockdown

Two weeks ago, Pax Prime was in full swing in Seattle as we heard of the news that Lockdown, the remake of Lockout, has officially been added to the list of Halo 2 Anniversary Maps coming with the Master Chief Collection. We got our hands on the map on the show floor that weekend and were very pleased with the additions and the feel the map retained from the original Halo 2 classic. The Pax Prime Showdown was a spectacular to watch with Team eXcellence taking home the first place prize. During the Halo panel, we got more information on Nightfall, Forge in Halo 2 Anniversary, the new music and audio being introduced in the remastered Halo 2 Campaign and even witnessed a proposal on stage (She said, “Yes,” BTW). This week, we are privileged to have community member Hoss Sauced join us on the podcast.

Podtacular 440: Lockout Returns

Yesterday we finally got the official word that Lockout will be getting the anniversary treatment for the Master Chief Collection. The map is a staple among competitive Halo players and has rightfully earned its spot to be remade. Come hear our take on the news as we record from Seattle, a day before getting our hands on the map at Pax Prime. Halo: Reach will be available under the Games with Gold program next month for Xbox 360. More details about this week’s Pax Prime Showdown has been made available in this week’s bulletin. Joining us from our friends over at Ready Up Live are Drax 122, Veloc1ty24 and Micky.

Lockout Officially Joins Halo 2 Anniversary

pax-2014-halo-2-anniversary-concept-lockout-ice-and-fireEarlier this morning, Gamespot reported that Lockout has officially been announced as the 5th map for Halo 2 Anniversary.  No Halo 2 remaster would be complete without Lockout and the many memories it has for Halo fans.  We’re hoping we will see some Lockout gameplay at Pax Prime and the Pax Showcase (detailed in this week’s Halo Bulletin).

Podtacular 439: Show Me The Showdowns

Just when we thought one Showdown was enough, 343 has announced in their latest Halo Bulletin that Pax Prime will feature it’s own Showdown on Halo 2 Anniversary.  We were very excited to watch the Gamescom Showdown finals and see European pro team TCM take home the first place prize.  Now we have the Americans to give their go at Halo 2 Anniversary for the same prize purse of $10K.  If you’re going to be at Pax Prime this year, you will have the opportunity to play for a spot in the Showdown at the Astro Gaming booth with games of the showdown being broadcast on Saturday and Sunday.  Also on Saturday is the Halo panel at 11:00A PDT with more delicious Master Chief Collection goodness.  Make sure you hit us up on Twitter if you’re going to be in town next weekend.

Dive Deeper into the Master Chief Collection from the Gamescom Xbox Booth

gamescom-2014-halo-2-anniversary-multiplayer-sanctuary-concept-cliffFrom Gamescom, 343 Industries continues to gives us more tidbits of information expanding on the announcements made during the Xbox briefing on Monday.  From the Xbox booth they have had two streams covering different areas of the Master Chief Collection.

Halo Channel and Halo 2 Anniversary

On Tuesday morning, Geoff Keighley sat down with Kiki Wolfkill and Dan Ayoub.  The first part of the interview focused on the Halo Channel, which is not a replacement of Halo Waypoint, but more of an evolution of it.  Kiki explains that the channel is designed to behave like premium TV programming and is geared to be an interactive entertainment channel.  One example of this is the Halo Bulletin will become a weekly video production that will be featured on the Halo Channel.

In the second part of the interview, we learn that the Halo 2 Anniversary soundtrack is being recorded at Skywalker Studio and will more closely resemble the original Halo 2 Soundtrack than the Halo CEA one.  This is to give the music higher fidelity sound and provide a better surround-sound mix.  Halo 3 and 4 are getting a few technical tweaks to take advantage of the Xbox One hardware including changes to the lighting systems and shaders.  Dan, when asked about ranks, also said each game in the Master Chief Collection will have it’s own ranking system, and not one across the entire collection.

Shrine (Sanctuary)

Wednesday morning, Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky sat down with Certain Affinity’s Max Hoberman to talk about Shrine, the remake of Sanctuary for Halo 2 Anniversary.  Along with the major changes to scenery and environment, the map has a few changes that is similar to the remake treatment we saw in the Halo: CE Anniversary multiplayer maps.  The changes provide more choices for players to get around the map and strategize.  Assault rifles have been introduced to the map and the middle sword has been replaced with a rocket launcher.  Spawn points have also been slightly altered and in conjunction with the spawn system getting some tweaks itself.  Max also mentioned an article he wrote that was published on B.net about how the stats and ranking system worked for Halo 2.  It’s since been lost on Bungie’s website, but we’ve managed to find it and post it here.  The quick and dirty is that it is a modified Elo system with a zero-sum at rank 15 (for all you statisticians who knows what that means).  Below are some screenshots from Wednesday’s stream that were pointed out as new changes to the map.
