Podtacular 378: Big Winnings

Podtacular is playing catchup for the next couple of weeks as Dust Storm as commitments on Thursdays, so for now, we cover the June 19th bulletin. Spartan Ops was shown off at E3 showing how the Halo universe can expand past the Xbox platform onto your mobile device in Spartan Ops. You’ll get to play as Spartan Davis and Palmer as you go through their Spartan IV careers from the start. There’s also a newly announced Halo 4 tournament with up to $500,000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Pre-registration and first round of qualifiers will be hosted at RTX this year. Big item on the matchmaking front this week was mini-Spartan slayer. We’re hoping to see some new maps get integrated with this gametype. Enjoy

Podtacular Joins the Podkast Network

Today we are making our official announcement for joining the Podkast Network. We are honored to join the ranks of KritzKast: The Team Fortress 2 Podcast and ReachCast: A Planetside 2 Podcast, which also shares the title of the number one podcasts for their own games. I had the privilege of joining Tempest and Agro on KritzKast for their 225th episode to explain what Podtacular is and who we are as the premiere Halo podcast. Needless to day, we have a lot in common and we are very excited and happy to join the network. We will have the privilege of having them on next month and ReachCast in the future.

The Art of Podcasting Panel at RTX

On Sunday, July 7th at 16:00, Dust Storm will be hosting a panel on podcasting at RTX.  It will cover topics such as how to make your podcast sound like a quality show while maintaining and entertaining an audience.    See the following snippet from the panel description.

Podcasting is one of the easiest ways to spread your brands, communities, and ideas; yet many podcasts miss basic principles that lead to a better listening experience for subscribers and attracting new audiences. While some of these are related to content within a show, a majority are technical and don’t require too much effort. Do you run a podcast where you are looking to increase your audience or take the next step in advancing your podcast? Are you interested in starting a podcast and want to know where to start? We’ll cover technical tips to bring new quality to your podcasts and how to talk about what you want to share on your show while maintaining your own style.

Rooster Teeth’s New Series RWBY Premieres At RTX 2013!

Austin, TX— Wednesday, June 19, 2013— RTX 2013, the three-day event where gaming meets the Internet, is pleased to announce the first wave of confirmed programming, exhibitors and special guests including the premiere of Rooster Teeth’s highly anticipated new anime series, RWBY, and the first live event for Halo 4®‘s biggest tournament to date.  RTX 2013 will take place July 5th – 7th at the Austin Convention Center.

RTX is the brainchild of the great minds at Rooster Teeth, the team behind the longest running web series of all time, Red vs. Blue.  Rooster Teeth created RTX to bring the Rooster Teeth community, game companies, gamers, online content creators and online video lovers from around the world together for one great weekend in Austin, TX.  RTX is excited to return to the Austin Convention Center for the third annual convention where attendees will have the opportunity to play games, interact with one another and sit in on panels led by industry experts including the Rooster Teeth team.

RTX is thrilled to announce that attendees will have the first and only opportunity to view the premiere episode of Rooster Teeth’s new anime series, RWBY, ahead of its July 18th online premiere.  From Rooster Teeth’s Director of Animation Monty Oum, RWBY is a show that brings four very different girls together for one legendary purpose.  These four fighters will come face-to-face with menacing creatures, devious villains, and an incredible cast of characters.  The first episode of the series will be shown each day at RTX.

In other programming news, Freddie Wong, Matt Arnold and Desmond Dolly, co-founders of RocketJump, the creators of the web series Video Game High School, will be on hand at a panel on Friday at RTX to provide their personal insight on what goes into producing an award-winning series.  They will also unveil the official season 2 trailer before opening the floor to questions.

Additionally, Spill Dot Con is holding its convention within RTX with programming that includes a film festival, talent show, costume contest, and more.

RTX evening events include a Geeks Who Drink trivia night and an attendee mixer.

Podtacular 377: Gaming Regressed

We missed the matchmaking update last week because of E3 and the lack of the normal Halo Bulletin, so we decided to go over the changes. You can now play as mini Spartans in the Team Action Sack playlist. There are some other changes as well, but we’re here to talk about today’s Microsoft update to their DRM policy. The change includes pulling back on essentially everything that was said DRM related at the #XboxReveal removing things like your online game library, family and friends sharing with up to 10 people, instant access to your library of games from any Xbox one and the 24-hour check in. Games will be able to be bought, sold and traded as it currently stands today with the added bonus of no region enforcement of discs. Throughout the day, websites started hinting at this press release and it finally came to fruition, however, there are mixed views about whether this was the right move on Microsoft’s part, as adequately summed up over at Gizmodo. Playtime Live Stream

There will be live Q&A between seasons so now’s the chance to ask those burning questions about the machinima series you have wanted to ask. The total duration of the stream will be about two and a half to three hours, so grab some popcorn, kick back and relax as we bring you the entire Playtime experience. We will be broadcasting on our Twitch channel.

Podtacular 376: E3 2013 Roundtable

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo come and gone, it’s time for us to reflect on everything else that happened during the crazy week at E3. Many more games were shown off with gameplay and info leaking out with seemingly no end… until the close of the Expo that is. Where our primary focus is Halo and Microsoft, there are plenty of other games coming out and on other platforms which are of interest, which leads us to today’s recording.
