My East Coast Excursion

Everyone probably noticed that we haven’t done anything on the site within the last two weeks, with good reason.  I have been traveling the East Coast visiting some fellow podcasters and taking a vacation.  In a nutshell, I got to go to New York and visit Chris Burke, aka. Damian Lacedamian from This Spartan Life and Kete from The Running Riot.  I was planning to see JVB, but he’s a busy man.  Next stop was Florida where I got to meet Podtacular founder foomojive in Orlando and Community Godfather ChuckieJ in Gainesville.  For pictures and more, check out the forums.

We will be resuming our show this week with talks about ATLAS, Custom Challenges, and the updates we’ve seen to Waypoint and matchmaking.

Snowed In

In this week’s Halo Bulletin, we find that 343 has encountered quite a bit of snow.  To settle in, bs Angel has some goodies in the bulletin that might keep you busy until next week when they’ve hopefully dug themselves out.  Weekly Custom Challenges have been introduces whereby making the specified challenge will grant you some extra cR in-game to use.  In this week’s custom challenge, get out your pesticide, cause we’re hunting those nasty buggers.  The Office of Halo Intelligence continues on its second week: lots of meetings and reviews.  And as always, bs Angel answers some of the communities most pressing questions.

Podtacular 272: Game of the Year 2011

Last year was the year of more sequels, and we definitely had our fair share of games to play. In this week’s show, we decide on our picks for the best shooter of the year and then our favorite non-shooter. Except for a few classic podcast derailment segments, there are some good discussions about what made us choose the games we chose as our top picks for 2011. GLewis makes his re-appearance to the show, Brent Gamer surfaces for this show, and we bring on our new co-host DaftLink to make our choices. Enjoy

Podtacular 271: Protect the Internet

Shownotes
There’s been a strong opposition to two bills that have been brought up to the Senate and the House of Representatives that has been getting quite the amount of attention. For all of our non-American listeners, this may be news to you and not of much importance now, but it is something that we feel needs to be addressed and dealt with properly. The two bills in question are the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act, both of which, due to successful outcries by the US public are now put on hold, but it doesn’t end here. Former Co-host and now Community Manager of the Electronic Consumers Association, JVB is here to discuss what these bills mean and how they effect us as gamers. The shownotes contain some links that we discuss in the show and that you should take a look at. Enjoy

Live Login Vulnerabilities are Main Cause of Latest XBL Hacks

It’s never a good feeling knowing that a service that you use may be vulnerable to hackers.  It’s even worse knowing how easy it is to do.  According to Inside Gaming Daily, Eurogamer and AnalogHype have posted reports of findings behind the latest Xbox Live hacks.  Essentially, hackers use your gamertag to find profiles on other websites that you have linked your gamertag with and use the associated e-mail address as a base to see if it is your live ID.  Then, through scripting and other means of automation, hackers “brute-force” your password and gain access to your account, where they can do untold damage, especially if you have a credit card on file with Microsoft.

Best word of advise I can give in a situation like this, use a strong password, including lower/UPPER case letters, numbers, and special characters and no words or easily identifiable numbers (Wikipedia).  One other thing that frustrates me a little about live accounts is that the max password length is 16 characters, but that’s typically long enough for the casual user.

Bits and Pieces

With the holidays come and gone, there’s not too much Halo game-specific news to go around, but that doesn’t stop bs Angel from posting the weekly Halo Bulletins.  This week’s bulletin covers little tid-bits of the Primordium book tour, some non-existent Halo 4 news and some community questions.

Podtacular 270: Future of MLG

MLG is a professional gaming league where the best-of-the-best come to compete and show off their skills. If you have never heard of it or watched an event, you’re missing out. MLG has been pretty big with the Halo scene, but there has been some changes in the flow of attraction of the game when it comes to the circuit as a whole. That is why AnTiPRO (MLG Photographer/Boss Fight TV), JakFireDragon (Cyberline Films), and Cheeky (Former THO Infamous Coach/Halo Nation) are here to talk about the future of the Halo franchise in the realm of MLG. Enjoy
