What’s New at Podtacular: Events

This is the first in a series of posts talking about how Podtacular is stepping up to the plate for Halo 3. In the heyday of Halo 2 we had plenty of regular events for people to join in with. It’s time to bring that back with a vengeance! Here’s some of the events being worked on right now:

  • Godtacular Bible Study – hosted by Chuckie J. Chuckie leads studies in Halo 3 lobbies now. They’re really good for Christians trying to grown in their faith or for people that want to check out what Christianity is all about.
  • Custom Saturdays – hosted by Sqweryl. These will be regular events to show off some cool customs people have come up with, have a great time playing, and meet some new friends. Coming soon!
  • Podtacular Marines – hosted by Hazard. Play with friends at Podtacular competitively in matchmaking or meet new ones while kicking butt!
  • MLG Crew – hosted by Kiaffex. Once MLG rules are solidified for Halo 3, this group will be playing MLG rules games for ultimate competitive play without the random matchmaking encounters. Coming soon!
  • 4-Player Co-Op Tournament – hosted by Dialpex. An open tournament to the Halo Nation played on Mythic difficulty. Can you compete with the best?

That’s just the start, there’s more on the way that aren’t solidified yet. Got an idea for a one-time or regular event you want to run at Podtacular? You can do it, it’s not that hard. Here’s some tips on how to get one rolling. So whether you want to start an event or join in on one, be sure to check these out when the forums reopen shortly. I’ll update this post with links to these and other events when available.

Podtacular Invades Seattle

Foo Mo Jive and I had the honor of attending the Halo 3 launch event in Seattle. We had a chance to interview and meet a lot of great people. Our proudest moment had to be the interview we had with Marty O’Donnell, which made me a bit nervous, so nervous that I called myself Foo Mo Jive, lol.

Check out some more pics:

Halo 3 Limited Edition scratch issues

For those that have pre-ordered or intend to pick up their Limited Edition of Halo 3 today, a word of advice: open the case and inspect the game disc in the store before you leave. I had heard about problems with the Limited Edition having discs come loose during shipment and rolling around in the case, which can end up scratching the game disc pretty badly.

When I picked up my LE at a local GameStop, I opened mine right away and turned right around. I walked back to the counter, told them what I saw and they knew immediately what I was talking about, and apparently Microsoft knows about the problem. The clerk I dealt with just cut open a regular Halo 3 edition and swapped the game disc with me, so that’s probably your best option if you can swing it.

Again, be sure to check your game before you leave the store, because otherwise, if the game is unplayable, you’ll have to return to the store or possibly even have to send the game back to Microsoft, which might take days.

Halo 3: Tonight’s the night!

Just in case anyone hasn’t been paying attention, the wait is over and tonight you’ll be able to grab a copy of Halo 3 at midnight launch events across the globe. If you’re going to a midnight launch event, be sure to spread the word and represent Podtacular to as many of our fellow Halo fans as you can.

Foo Mo Jive and JVB will return soon with a new episode discussing their thoughts on Halo 3 and their experience so far, and we’ll be jumping back into our episode rotation, including episodes focused on strategies and tips for multiplayer, discussion of campaign tactics and encounters, and of course, custom games and saved films. Podtacular is coming back in a big way with Halo 3, so be sure to tune in for each episode to get the most out of the game.

Also, tomorrow you can expect to see a new face to Podtacular as well. Even though our discussion forums are currently in a lockdown (to prevent posting of spoilers), the site will have a few new features that we think you’ll like and get some use out of.

Otherwise, if you’re jumping in line tonight, have fun, stay safe and we’ll see you soon in a game of Halo 3!

Episode 128: Farewell Old Friend

It’s the final farewell to Halo 2. A look back at the game that brought us all together in the first place. With JVB, CapnKrunk, Dialpex, and George from Aeropause.com. This is a long show at over 1:30, but rightly so as it’s the end of an era. Song at the end is from our friends at Sarcastic Gamer. Enjoy it!
