Podtacular 555: Machine and Cinema

Machinima has deep roots in the Halo community starting with Randall Glass’s Warthog Jump and the longest running Halo series Rooster Teeth’s Red vs Blue.  Since it’s inception, Halo machinima has benefited from in-game tools and features such as weapon lowering, Forge, green screens and now, in Halo 5: Guardians, machinima mode and an increasing number of Forgeable scenes.  While the golden days of Halo machinima have yet to be revived since the days of Halo 3 and Reach, some individuals and groups have taken the reins to continue putting out well produced, entertaining videos.  Taking a look at machinima as it currently stands in Halo 5, we invited Halo 5 machinimators Digital Virus and Digital Infinity from Retro Digital, ThaGreatIsaiah, Pep, and Layne Thomas from Thomas Productions.  We’re also pleased to have Rooster Teeth back on the podcast with a special interview with Miles Luna, Head of Story for Season 14 of Red vs Blue.

This is the Chevrolet Colorado ZH2, but We Like to Call it the “Warthog”

2017-chevrolet-colorado-zh2-101-876x535

At first glance, this heavily modified Chevy Colorado ZH2 looks like a rugged, off-road military machine that could pass as a vehicle in Halo, but add in the hydrogen powered electric engine and now you’re talking things of the future!  Revealed at the U.S. Army’s Annual Meeting and Exposition, the truck’s modified suspension and 37-inch tires makes this one powerful off-road machine.  The new engine produces a lower heat signature and quieter operating noise, and since its only fuel is hydrogen, similarly to Halo’s Warthog, the only emission is water.  The fuel cell powering the modified ZH2 is mounted in the bed of the truck and can be removed and used as a portable generator.  Unfortunately, the truck is still undergoing testing and we likely won’t see it in use for another year.

Machinima Monday: Black Mamba

We usually like to stick away from promos, but this piece is one of the best we’ve seen yet from Halo 5 machinima.  In the promo, we’re introduced to bounty hunter Amira and her android Andii.  Their success in claiming the bounties before the other Tracers have earned her the title Black Mamba and is being pursued by an underground terrorist group.

Podtacular 553: Pax West 2016 Recap

Gaming conventions are not only a great place to explore the latest in tabletop and video games, but also brings people and communities together, especially the Halo community. Pax West, formerly Prime, is the gaming convention to attend if you are a Halo fan with 343 Industries being just outside of Seattle in Redmond. Pax West showcased the latest content update, Anvil’s Legacy along with Halo Wars 2 Strongholds on the show floor, but some Halo community members had a special visit to 343 Industries with a chance to get some hands on time with the new content before release. For this show, we wanted to get a fresh perspective on the Pax attending experience for Halo fans. Sovth, our website designer, Toa Freak from Halo Canon and The Spartacat from Ultimate Halo all attended Pax for the very first time this year and shared their experiences with us.
