Podtacular E3 2016 Special: Halo Wars 2 Demo

Dan Ayoub, Executive Producer at 343 Industries walks us though the first mission of Halo Wars 2 and the introduction of the Banished after the crew of the Spirit of Fire wakes up from 28 years in cryo sleep.  Bringing a sequel to Halo Wars has been a major request from the Halo community and hasn’t been without its own challenges along the way from gameplay mechanics to story they wanted to tell.  At the end of the session, Dan took some time to do a short Q&A.

E3 2016 Special: Xbox Platform Update with Aaron Greenberg

During E3, we had the chance to sit down with Aaron Greenberg, Head of Xbox Games Marketing to discuss the announcements regarding the Xbox Platform made during the Xbox Media Briefing.  This refreshes our show having an Xbox representative featured in one of our recordings since Larry Hryb, better known as Major Nelson, was a guest for Episode 8 back in 2005.   We had a chance to dig a little deeper into the new Xbox One controller design studio, the Xbox One S(lim), and new dashboard features.  There wasn’t much Aaron could talk into the future of some of these announcements with many of them either still in development or waiting to see how the community reacts to them, but he did say it would be nice to have someone back on the show a little more often than once a decade.

Podtacular 543: Halo Bowl Recap

Thanks to all of the support from the Halo community, the Halo Bowl was a big success.  In addition to crowning Drunken Halo the champions of the tournament, we raised over $1600 for Gamers Outreach to partially fund a GO Kart. After E3, we all got together to recap our experience in the tournament and we’re pleased to have Zach Wigal, founder of Gamers Outreach on to discuss what the charity is all about and some exclusive looks at some upcoming programs they are working on.  Also, we must give a huge thanks to GrimBrother One for highlighting the tournament on the Community Update.

Halo Wars 2 Official Announcement, Open Beta Starts Today

Halo Wars 2

During today’s E3 Xbox Press Briefing, 343 Industries partnered with Creative Assembly officially announced Halo Wars 2 coming to Windows 10 PC and Xbox One, Feburary 21, 2017.  Halo Wars 2 carries on the Real-time Strategy gameplay of Halo onto the Ark, where you’ll fight against the Banished Covenant faction.  Halo Wars 2 was originally targeted for a 2016 launch window, but was pushed back for polish and breath-ability to be enjoyed by Halo fans upon release.  However, starting today, the Halo Wars 2 Open Beta is available on Xbox One only.  There will be a subsequent beta before the game’s release that will include a PC beta, but according to Xbox, a PC build of the game simply wasn’t ready in time to account for the variety of different possible computer configurations available.

Halo Wars 2 will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning your saves and achievements will be available both on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC and you only have to buy the game once to play on either platform.  Tomorrow Xbox will unveil more details about how to pre-order Halo Wars 2 and about the Ultimate Edition of Halo Wars 2, which will include Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, along with other bonuses.  Grab the Open Beta today from the Xbox Store.

During the beta, two game modes will be available.  Starting today, June 13th through June 16th, Domination will be playable, which is the traditional RTS game mode seen in the original Halo Wars where players fight for map control.  From June 17th until June 20th, Deathmatch will be playable where players fight until one is the last standing.
