SNIPING GUIDE
Section 2: The Sniper Rifle – Now onto the Sniper Rifle, this is a considerably easy weapon to track. Though it’s actually better for stealth
Part 1: Hiding – This weapon is human military issue. Therefore, it doesn’t have those flashy lights Covenant weapons have. Use that to your advantage. You can have your Sniper Rifle out in the open without it attracting attention with flashing buttons. Stay in the shadows. Use cover to keep your muzzle flash from lighting up the whole area. If you are clever enough, actually extend the rifle into a lighter place. If a place has seen recent carnage, actually duck into piles of corpses. The Beam Rifle has a problem with this because of its shape. If you prop it right, a Sniper Rifle will look discarded, a Beam Rifle won’t.
Part 2: Hiding the Trail If you like sniper rifles, then you know that the hydrogen trail is a dead give away. So, learn to hide it. To do this, stay in the shadows, then fire it so the trail appears right where the light starts. Harder to spot. Target someone, shoot and fall off a ledge at the same time so people will think you’re still on the ledge judging from the trail. Look at where your trail will go and make it so it won’t hit any shadows.
Section 3: The Beam Rifle Aahh, the mortal enemy of all who play legendary. Though, in the battle field, it’s one of the most useful tools. Why? No need to reload. Part 1: Hiding Yes, there’s much different ways to hiding a Beam Rifle then a Sniper Rifle. First of all, they glow. Not good. An easy giveaway. So learn to make it so the rifle stays under cover, but you can still shoot. Not an easy thing to do. The easiest way to learn it is to stand behind cover PLAYING A FRIENDLY GAME, with the Beam Rifle. Have a friend tell you when he can and he can’t see the glow. Do this until you can hide the glow every time. Part 2: Timing the Shots The Beam Rifle introduces a new interesting concept to Halo sniping. No need to reload. A useful tool. This however, makes headshots a necessity. There’s about one and a half seconds before you can fire again, or else it will overheat. It’s much faster if you don’t overheat, so get your timing down. Create a custom game and just shoot until your timing is perfect.
Legal Paper says: Also, and this is on EVERY MAP, when you get a weapon, your melee is very slow on huge weapons like the rocket launcher, brute shot, battle rifle, etc. There is a glitch that can make you melee up to 3x faster. The way to do it is to hit “B” to melee and right when you hit that, hit “X” afterwards very quickly. It should sequence like this: B.XB.XB.XB.XB.as the dots are VERY short pauses in between melees. Practice first with a brute shot, it’s noticeable and can get you a more deadlier, faster weapon. This really works when meleeing the flag carrier, or just any other person. That’s all for now, see ya!
Master Hans says: When the game type is planting the bomb, i found it very useful to look down at the ground while arming so when you get killed with any weapon other than the rockets your bomb will drop down onto the bomb plant area. Earlier you may have received a comment from my brother “KONGtacular” about being like a body guard for the bomber. Well we use both of these tactics together all of the time and we barely ever lose as long as one of us gets the bomb.
MAP OF THE WEEK: TERMINAL
- Ummm, let’s see, obvious but true, if u are good with it, and you’re playin an objective game on defense. Use the wraith to the fullest extent. In the beginning, I hide at the hill to the back of the red base, where the wart jumps the track, so that I’m ready to take out the gauss, after that you can easily guard the base. I played one game where they armed the bomb 5 TIMES, but each time I shot at the bomb guy, it didn’t plant and flew out of the base.
- Get the rockets! the rockets are amazingly important, bother for defense, to protect the wraith, and offense to kill the wraith, not to mention the rockets have a hundred uses.
- This may seem pointless to some people, but if you do it while you are winning it can help a lot. In a team slayer game you may want to try to get people in the room above the parking garage (the “secret room”) try to get people up there especially if they have the sniper. To get up there get one person on top of another person’s head. Then, have the person on the bottom jump; when the person is at his/her highest point, have the person on the top jump and try to land in the room. You may need to practice this. This is one of the best spots for sniping!!! When you do get up there , there is a vulnerability to grenades if the other team finds you up there. So be careful the best spot to avoid the grenades is in the corner near the three “windows”. You can’t really get sniped from right there.
- In Flag and bomb game types it’s a must for the offensive team to obtain the rockets, to take out the defensive wraith. The first step in any strategy to capture the flag or arm the bomb is to take out the wraith and using the rockets, as all of us know, is the easiest way to take the Wraith out. So do not forget to get those rockets on offense.
- Also, do not use the Warthog until the Wraith has been taken out cause there is really no point to as you’ll be an easy target for the Wraith. So wait until the Wraith has been taken out then use the Warthog to your advantage. From there on arming the bomb should not be hard. Besides the Wraith the defensive team doesn’t have any ‘power weapons’ since most people don’t go for the sword.
- Another offensive strategy, I have has been an experimenting on, is what my team and I have been recently doing. At the beginning of the offensive round get the Warthog filled and rush the base, while the fourth guy makes a mad dash for the rockets (just in case the rush doesn’t work). Stop in the caves (below the terminal) and get everyone out of the cave and go to the arming point. Sometimes this works since the defense player get caught off guard while getting their weapons and don’t notice the ‘whoever’ is arming the bomb. It has only worked about ½ of the time so I wont recommend it but if you can work the kinks out it’ll work great I think. Now for defense the main strategy that has worked most of the times for me is that make one of your men get into the wraith to wait for the first rush, two players rush the rockets, and your fourth man try to get the sword. The Wraith owns this map, which is why the rockets are on the map to counter each other and if one team has both in hand it’s very hard to arm the bomb or get the flag. If you don’t get the rockets and lose the Wraith due to explosion, (if you lose it to the offensive team you can basically kiss your own ass) the only other big weapon to use to the Sword. Be wary of the sniper and just watch your base. This is one of the few maps, I think, that the offensive team has the advantage but if you work it right you can easily win.
- No big strategy’s for slayer just play it as a Zanzibar/headlong where u watch out for the Sniper and do not much moving from cretin points. For me it always seems that in slayer the large portions of the fighting happens in the Terminal and in courtyard which the train comes into play so just look out for the train at times and you should be good.
- Feelthethunder’s Safety Tip: Look both ways while crossing the tracks
- You can block the side door to the “back alley” beside the defensive base with the dumpster. Use the wraith, and boost while pressing down A to get up, then simply push the dumpster in front of the door. This makes it much more difficult for a flag carrier to escape in that direction.
- If you get an overshield, and its still charging when a train hits you, you can safely fly to the other side of the map. if you can manage to do this while you have the bomb in multi team or something, you may have a nice advantage… or you might land in someone’s trigger happy sights.
- I’m Number Q says: My tip for this map is: At the beginning of a CTF or Assault match, if you are on the defending team spawning in that “attic” place, don’t forget that there is that little window that reveals where the attacking team is and how they are going to attack your base. You can also walk outside that window on the ledge thing and BR the stragglers. oh and my gamertag, imnumberQ isn’t an inside joke, its just a name i came up with cause I’m not so smart and i thought it was funny at the time…my bad…
- Sh4rdy says: Hey i actually have a tip for you guys for terminal. If you have a sniper and you want to use it to its fullest go into the second story of the parking garage and stand in the far left corner of the floor and watch the door and ramp this is a very easy place to get head shots on your opponent. Oh and if u guys could mention my name it would be awesome i don’t think it was ever mentioned that rugby rocks left pod2 and i took his spot just wondering but hey keep up the good work and a little key point… podtacular 1 IS better than podtacular 2. :) Also i just thought of another tip when you are sniping and you are jumping up and down actually try to aim you’re snipe at the person and when you are coming down then snipe it makes it a lot easier to hit your opponent and i think it might some how be linked with swipe but not certain yet. Also when you are moving around move left and right and when you aim comes onto the guy then shot this is just another way that i think it might be swipe but not yet proven. It seems to work for me i get 15+ kills a game and this is all just a little hint when playing snipers on colossus the best place to be is in the upper part of the base when you are up there u can walk back and forth and if u have a steady hand when you are walking down the hallway u can walk zoomed and as soon as someone starts walking around the corner BOOM HEADSHOT loll. also u have the stair cases u can look down into red and blue base.
- Steal! Steal! Steal! if you can get into the enemies base and steal their hog. Now it wont spawn unless its blown up and you have the added advantage of having 2 hogs 1 ghosts and a wraith.
- To get the sword without any worries of an incoming, go to the second level of the parking garage and jump from the depicted platform. Overshield and Sword are placed on the rails where a train makes instant-kills happen. The sword can be jumped down to from the high ground near the Hive base (the base that is the defense base in One Flag game types). Beneath the Sword tracks along the cement wall near the garage is a generator box. You can quick jump into the garage from the ground using the generator and then hopping into the garage. That Sword can be reached from below in addition to being jumped down on from above. To grab it from beneath, just hop up onto the box near the sword and then crouch jump up onto the tracks. If you are coming down from above, it will be in the upper level of the Parking Garage looking down at the Sword. The jump appears to be far, but if you crouch you’ll land and grab the Sword easily. Terminal is a map that is clearly designed for objective based games. Not balanced objective games like CTF Classic, as one base is far more defensible (by design) than the other. If you spawn at the non-Hive base, you can grab the Sniper Rifle and the Rockets quickly, this is to balance out the harsh reality that the other team is only a few moments away from beating down your face with the Wraith. There’s a nice sniper spot if you can get away from, or get control of the Wraith, back in the Wraith courtyard across from the turrets. From here you can cover a huge portion of the map. If your opponents are in the Blue Base or Parking garage, have your sniper head toward the Sword. On the lower level of the terrain beneath the sword continue away from the Blue base. You can set up in this area with a Sniper Rifle and hold teams in the Blue Base or Parking garage.
- Defensive Strategy: for one person or 2 if not confident is when you start in the spawn point above the flag or bomb point go down the hole that leads to the parking lot and go for the rockets. But don’t rush the rockets chances are that you will probably be too busy thinking of getting the rockets to worry about the enemy killing you with a ghost or shotgun, instead wait for the enemy to get the rockets and lob your grenades down to the rocket booth (as i call it) while hes down there because he has no way of getting out and you can easily finish him off and get the rockets.
- Another defensive strategy is when you start jump down and get the plasma nades and battle rifle on the ramp going to the train tracks and get onto the walkway that goes over the train tracks and wait for rushers in warthogs and ghost going for flag because you can easily toss plasma nades down on top of their vehicles and literally rain down on their parade.
- Offensive Strategy: When you have just got the flag take the flag through the parking lot way and the trick here is to stay on the 2nd level and jump onto the train tracks that are between the 2nd level of the parking lot and the 2nd level of the offensive base and you can get an easy capture because the defensive players are probably waiting for you on the 1st level of the offensive base and when they hear that flag capture voice run through their ears they will probably fill their pants with confusion and frustration. (sorry for the mental image!)
- An interesting hiding spot in the defensive base in CTF is up on top of the neon sign that wraps around the pillar. If you crouch up there while looking around, you may get the drop on anyone trying to raid the base from the train track bridge. Also, this spot is mostly safe from your teammate firing wraith shots into the base(as long as he keeps his aim low enough) With another guy trying to contest rockets and another guy guarding the street with a sniper rifle, your defense will be perfect.
- I hate this map! What do know is you can take out the tank with the gauss Warthog if you have a good driver and gunner. My sister and I have taken out the Wraith many times with the ‘Hog, and then just suppressed the other team with it until our guys could deliver the bomb or take the flag. Other than that, I just go in from below. I actually had my best Slayer game on this map, but I still hate it.
- I’ve got a great tip for this map that if patient enough many kills will come your way. The tip is used mainly on snipers but is still usable in slayer matches. The key to this tip is getting into or spawning in the defensive attic of the garage, you know where you cant usually get to. If you crouch near the hole that leads to the 2nd floor garage, you can look through the hole down the ramp towards the rockets and shoot who ever walks up the ramp with an easily placed headshot. if you are not spawned in the attic or playing a slayer match where you don’t start with a sniper, you should get a warthog and park it beneath the hole and use a teammate to boost you into the hole and into position. Of course boost by standing on your teammates head while he stands on the warthog and jump. Now the teammate should move the warthog as to hide your trail.
- 1. I’m not a big fan of hiding the flag or bomb, but if, for whatever reason, you feel it’s absolutely necessary, (I know in the higher levels that things like this are far more acceptable, because everyone is more skilled and tricks like this are much more common.) I know a pretty good place. You can grab the bomb/flag and run along the tracks in the direction of the offensive base. I suggest starting your run at the sword spawn on the tracks then just run as far as you can until the train hits you, Yes, you will die, but then the bomb/flag will land on the tracks and other players will have quite a time trying to get it. (Also, wait until the train goes by once before you start running, that way you’ll have the most time to run, and make sure you have your teammates covering you, running along such a narrow space makes you a very easy target)
- 2.If you’re on defense in an assault/CTF game, you’ll notice there are two columns on either side of the “X” where the bomb is planted, (Some might argue that it’s a “plus sign”...RvB joke). You can jump onto the one closer to the Flag spawn. Just crouch jump from the slope that comes out of the train station (I’m doing my best to explain this) onto the sign on the column that says something like “Station”. You can drop down from there with the sword and take out anyone who comes in to plant the bomb or take the flag.
- I know this sounds obvious to every one but you would not believe the times i see people do the opposite in Big Team Battle. If you are going to run along the tracks (maybe for the overshield or sword), always run on the left side of whichever way you are facing. This is so you can see the train coming in front of you and have time to jump to the other track when you see its lights. If the train comes from behind you, it will pass by without harming you. I hope everyone hears this so I don’t have anymore teammates on Big Team Battle getting hit from behind from the train right when we need them (annoyed grunt)!
- I have only a few things to say on Capture the Flag games on Terminal. When you are going to get the flag, where you spawn in the highest room where you can only fall, go out the window where the plasma grenades are and walk as far as you can to the left while on the window walkway. From the end on the corner you can jump to the pillar that’s right in front beneath you that holds the tracks. Make sure you jump AFTER the train, or you can risk it. From the pillar you can easily jump to the base with the flag on the ledge of the window where the flag is facing the front of the base. Grab it and run out onto the tracks AGAIN. This should be so fast that the guarding team should only have SMG’s still, not to mention the Battle Rifles that are waiting, and the shotgun. If a guy on their team is going to the rocket launcher, he shouldn’t be back yet, unless he’s a modder or you’re just slow. While all this is taking place, send two of your teammates to retrieve your ghost and wraith. The ghost should run to the enemies base and cause a ground distraction while your flag carrying teammate runs along the tracks. The wraith should be positioned in the hall that is under the boarding platforms, shooting at the enemies shooting up from the ground to your flag carrier. The wraith is also able to destroy their warthog and ghost to keep them from getting to kill your flag carrier before he gets to the base. The flag carrier should also be aware to walk on the LEFT SIDE RAIL THAT LEAVES THE ENEMIES BASE. Therefore he will be able to spot the rampaging train sooner to jump to the other rail away from harm. As soon as the train passes, jump right back to the original escape rail, unless you are already back at the boarding platforms, which you should be. Now its just a straight shot to score with hopefully little if not NO enemies around to stop you, if this all goes well. It’s a fairly easy and fast way to get a score. However, on the opposing team GUARDING the flag, be looking out for this. Use the ghost and warthog as an INSIDE defense, if not, just choose one to grab and use. DO NOT LEAVE THE BASE TO GO TO THE OTHER SIDE TO GET MORE VEHICALS! Let the other vehicles come to YOU, and they will. Some people just don’t know what they’re doing, and that makes just less defenders to attacking team have to worry about. The ONLY reason you should be out of the base is to retrieve heavy and useful weapons. This, however, is just ONE way to get the flag in a quick way, I’m sure of it.
- On CTF (offense), If you and one of your teammates goes through the garage (rockets) area, there is a very easy way to capture the flag. I usually only do it with only one other teammate and have the others make mad rushes to distract the enemy. You pick up the rockets, go up the ramp and through the door that will lead you to the alleyway with the dumpster. Have the person with the rockets jump down, while the other stays up. The person with rockets kills the enemies in the base, grabs the flag, and tosses it up to the teammate. The teammate then has a almost completely covered path back to the base and can easily score. I also advise that the rockets go out and kill the wraith because he can cut him off as the wraith goes to kill the flag guy or to spam the base with wraith shots (very annoying). On slayer matches, take the sniper near the offensive base and then head all the way back to the end of the road that the sniper is on (near the train exit or hog jump spot). If you stay back there, enemies will continually try to attack the wraith (defensive) side for whatever reason. If you are at the end of the road, the enemies will not see you and it is easy to pick them off, there is also a large rock up there that you can snipe down into the courtyard with. The trick is to get that particular sniper and to make the enemy come to you. 3 Plots? Simple, the wraith rules 3 plots.
- In a capture the flag game if you get on the tracks onto one of the middle platforms in between the two tracks you can be hit by the train and boosted back to your base. this is hard and takes a lot of practice to get it just right you should make sure you get hit by the right train or you will get boosted back to the other teams base.
CUSTOM GAMES
Boomers from D-Money great on zanzibar invisible no shields grenades only rockets all vehicles
the challenge is to know how to tell where everyone is bcuz they r invisible shooting at the ground really helps because without shields, jumping cant save u can b played as single or team. Boss Hogg by Testdrug
Objective : Moving King of the Hill with Warthog vehicles. All out demolition derby where the only way to gain time is to be in the hill and in a warthog UNCONTESTED (meaning option to gain time when contested is turned off). Only way to knock your opponent out of the hill is using your vehicle. Recommended amount of players is 2-4 (Coagulation hosts the most warthogs-4). Ghosts can be substituted if needed, but we mainly use the other vehicles to get to the warthogs quicker. The hill move is set to 30 seconds and the total time is set to 3 minutes. No grenades and starting weapons is pistols to help ensure that nobody blows up the vehicles. There’s a twist, if there is only one vehicle presently on the map in good condition, you may fight over the vehicle by pulling each other out (This is fun to play on Turf as there is only ONE warthog). Big maps are recommended, but me and my friend have played this game type on every map that is vehicle able and it’s equally as fun. Note : Coagulation is the best map for this game type, but the hill will sometimes move to the top of the base, considering it’s so damn hard to get on top of there with a vehicle, me and my friend mutually agree to just zip around the field until it moves again (usually butting into each other in the process).

- Scope Training from Konyn, a Dutch Listener
I just made up a custom game to practice my No Scopesbut it is good for overall aiming as well because you learn to shoot without the “autoaim” It’s a game for only one player and can only be played on Lockout.
the objective is to shoot all the exploding barels there are 10 different spots (I counted the groups of barrels as 1) use these settings on Slayer: Match options: 6 rounds (you can use less , but 6 works best for me) round time 1 minute and keep rounds reset map on (important!) Equipment: Starting weapon: Beam Riffle Weapons on map: None and no grenades either simple right, you have one minute to destroy all 10 exploding barrel spots. and because the rounds reset map is on you can try again right after the round without re-starting the game You can make some extra rules for yourself to make it more interesting, for example, I like to keep moving and shoot the barrels from antother platform/room, so they are not to close, you can also try to shoot each object just once and move on to the next one if you miss. or try to make all the shots in mid-air. using the Human sniper makes it also a bit harder because you have to reload after 4 shots.
Okay, there are three teams: Humans (Red), Covenant (Purple), and Flood (Brown). Please note that you should NOT change teams when you die as this is not Zombies! The following limitations apply to each team: Humans can only use Human weapons, Covenant can use only Covenant weapons, and the Flood can use any. Mode: Team Slayer Kill Limit: 50 Players Recommended: 4-16 Map(s): Any Primary Weapon: SMG (or Battle Rifle) Secondary Weapon: Plasma Rifle Weapons on Map: Default Overshields: On Battefield 2 from Poobinator Type: Territories Specifications: No Shields, battle Rifles and Pistols, Human Weapons On map, Long Territory Capture, Best Played On Zanzibar or Relic. Unnamed from justintib9 [valiant]
This is a slayer variant, and it is not a team game. Everyone starts off with a sword and shotgun, has extra damage, damage resistence, overshields, and active camo. The weapons on map are map default, vehicules are warthogs or gauss warhogs, scorpion tanks or wraiths, and banshees. Kill limit is 50 or 25, lives are unlimited. The main turret is a large machine gun, and secondary is large plasma. Starting grenades turned on, and I think this game works best on Zanzibar and Coagulation. Nooby Booby overshields with battle rifles and plasma pistols, go to town.
