Podtacular Episode 133: Crow’s Nest Campaign Show for the week of 10/30/2007

(hosts foo mo, JVB, Lord Gideon)

introductions

In the campaign mode in the level after sierra 117 (sorry i cant think of
the name of the level) if you wander around the base for a while you will
come to a dead end, there will be a marine trying to get into the armory,
on the other side of the door is another marine who won’t let him in. Its
kinda funny, i cant really explain it but basically they argue for like 5
minutes then you hear a thump and the guy on the other side stops talking.
So look for it, its really funny.
Shoutout to all the guys at the USN.

If you haven’t heard already, there is an Easter egg in this level.

Back at the Child’s Play Ball, the guys over at Red vs. Blue won an
auction to have a part in Halo 3. Their appearance is not that hard to
find.

It is at the end of the “Tunnel” right before you reach the hanger. Instead of turning to go to the hanger, keep going down the tunnel until
you see a marine outside a locked door. Stand still and listen to some
comic relief. There are 3 different conversations, 1 for Normal, 1 for
Hard, and one for Legendary each starring different members of the cast of
Red vs Blue.

Also here is how you find the Grunts Birthday party skull.

After you drop down into the vents with the drones and kill all the
drones, SLOWLY walk towards the end of the shaft. You will come to a drop
which leads to another shaft. DON’T JUMP YET! Instead walk to the edge
and look down. yopu should see a green arrow on a small ledge. turn
around and slowly back off the edge and then run forward once you start
falling. Follow this hidden path to the end and you will find the grunts
birthday party skull. The effect of the skull when activated is that a
cloud of confetti explodes and you hear children cheer (like in viva
pinata when a pinata is broken) when you get a headshot on a Grunt. While
it is a Silver skull and gives no achievement or points bonus, I always
turn it on because its so much fun to play with it on.

Hello, podtacular, I am new to the website here, but I have been listening
to the podcasts for quite a while. For those of you high score people,
legendariens or just plain campaign cooks out there, I think I might have
some useful info for you. Crow’s Nest, being level 2, can be considered very easy. And it is,
really. The first hard part would be when you reach the hangar. To beat
it, simply make your way to the top of the hangar and enter the room with
all of the controls. There you can find several battle rifles and easily
snipe down the brutes and grunts and also avoid the fire from the
dropships. High scorers can make the most of this by getting headshots. After clearing that, soon you will come across a swarm of drones. To clear
them out, head to the left side of the room and dismount the turret. Take
out all of the drones away from the swarm, and then periodically stick
your head out and take them down. The next room is, in my opinion, the hardest. It is an upward slope with
many brutes and a chieftain. Right now, your main worry are the ones armed
with carbines. Use grenades to take them out and then float to the top with
a grav lift found on the floor. Float to the right and pick up the shotgun.
Wait for the brutes to come to you, and then shoot em down. Deal with the
chiefain by floating up and down and avoiding the hammer. Eventually, you will come to a room with a chieftain armed with a fuel rod
cannon guarding the bomb. Take out the other brutes and grunts.
recommended use of plasma pistol found in the room… Then I have found
that the chieftain actually comes to you when his comrades are dead. Get
up close and avoid his melee, and you will do fine. After that, drop down,
grab the BR and take out the brute on the plasma cannon. Disarm the bomb,
and finish the level in any way you see fit.
Remember you meta scorers, turn on the skulls!
Keep on making fun of yetis,
KSI Murderer

This mission can be hard, but a few strategies can help you get through it.
I find that the best way to beat this mission alone is to simply turret
spam. You should have no problem finding them—there’s usually at least 2
per area. The part with the drones can be tricky, however, by then you
should probably have a turret with a little ammo left, and a deployable
cover. Deploy the cover near the metal grate so the marines have some
decent cover, then simply take the advice of one of the marines and use
your turret in short, controlled bursts. Do this and hide behind the cover
when you lose shields quickly. If you run out of turret ammo, simply switch
to the Assault Rifle and use the same tactics. The final room with the
brute that has the fuel rod cannon can be tricky. The best strategy is to
sneak up, and either stick or assasinate the grunts, and stick the
remaining brutes. Usually, the fuel rod cannon brute survives the
onslaught of stickys. No problem, as you should have picked up a plasma
turret along the way to the room. Simply stay on top of the stairs and
play hide and seek with him. Go to one side, jump, fire a few rounds, then
go to the other side and repeat until he is pushing up daisies. Good luck
all!

hey everyone, its Lancelot59 with my
impressions of this level (P.S. I played it on Legendary). The beginning
cinematic is kinda funny. The silly monologue…lol. And so after that I
proceeded to run on out. The random fusion cores were useful methods of
killing weaker enemies while conserving ammo. The drones were a pain in
the ass because the masses of them could inflict lots of damage while
being hard to kill as a whole. They usually like to cluster up so sticking
them at these points or AR’ing them helps to mow them down quite
effectively. The brutes in this environment are harder to kill because of
the random nooks and crannies for them to hide and duck into. however this
also works to your advantage. my tactics for dealing with the chieftain on
the way to the barracks is to get him to waste his invincibility by BS’ing
him (brute shot) then dropping a grav lift and flying safely to the top
level. Kill off the few brutes here with some sticks and fort up. Once you
have the gravity hammer jump off then proceed to own and pwn the brutes.
Flying brutes on the other hand…holy crap. They’re tricky to hit and
once I got killed just by one guy LANDING on me. using a brute shot is
only really good at close range, so unless you can time the shots right
its best to stick em when they land, as this also gives you free ammo. One
thing I didn’t like even on Legendary mode was the Arbiter AI, he’s an ass
tard. for some reason he just seems to like getting shot in the face and
he died a lot. A lot of the time I would just see him staring at walls
while I was fighting enemies. But other then that it had the kind of cover
and go game-play that I like. Keep on fraggin whatever we frag now.

this level was real tough but it wont be TOOOO hard if u have some
patience,
the room that had me stuck was the one right before the elevator
with the gold brute, brute cheiftain, and a whole crapload of minors and
majors
what u gotta do, is grenade stick the golden
melee the 2 minors in the back and head back up the stairs
there should be a room to your right filled with battle rifle ammo and a
shotgun
use these to slowley pick off the brutes. when the cheiftan charges you,
jump to the other side and then sometimes he will stop moving on the
bridge, then shoot him with all ya got

this battle is almost completely dependent on how much ammo you bring so
dont waste it on the grunts before hand.

There are two skulls you can collect on Crow’s Nest. The first one is
black eye, which you can get right off the bat after starting the level.
It’s laying on a pipe that hangs down from the ceiling in the first room
of the level. You can easily get to it by jumping onto some metal bars,
and then onto the pipe itself. The skull is at the very end of the pipe. The 2nd skull to get is the grunt birthday party skull, which is later
on in the level. At the end of the hallway where drones fly in and out of
pipes around you, there is a drop. Look down and you will see there is a
ledge you can land on. Carefully drop down onto it, and you will see the
skull there, waiting for you.

The effects of these to skulls are as follows: The Black Eye Skull will
not allow your energy shields to recharge automatically, instead, you must
melee opponents to regain shields, hence the description, “Bash your way to
better health.” The grunt birthday party skull causes grunts, when shot in
the head, to explode in a shower of confetti. You will also hear the
gleeful cries of children shouting, YAAAAAAAY!!! This does not affect
gameplay, however it is quite hilarious and satisfying. Keep on babaming
grunts.

Sup guys!
I was playing through this level with my brother, trying to get the
metagame achievements, and i noticed that a charged plasma bolt knocks the
armor off of those pesky brutes. Because I was going for scoring, I had my
brother just shoot brutes with the plasma pistol, and they were brought
down with a BR headshot. It’s also a great way to save ammo with the
famine skull, as you can save BR ammo, and you can find plasma pistols
EVERYWHERE.
Keep on fraggin fraggers who frag frags with frags.

Hey guys, here’s a few tips for The Crow’s Nest />If I had to pick, I’d say this level was one of my least favorites, since
there’s quite a bit of backtracking. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it
though.
The skull is located at the very beginning of the level, on some piping
above the computer monitor. Once you start the level, just follow the
pipes until you get to a place where you can crouch jump your way onto
them.

Around the middle of the level when you’re in a building fighting Brutes,
you’ll periodically see ladders. These lead to an air vent/tunnel which
you can walk through and skip most of the Brutes. This is a great
alternative to just pushing your way through them and adds a strategic
element to the gameplay.
That’s all I got. Great job with the podcast (love the new music) and
keep it up.

Hey Podtacular I’m here to talk about the Red vs. Blue easter egg found on
Crows Nest and an easy way to get behind Brutes when in the Barracks. You
get to the easter egg while on your way to the Hanger at the beginning of
the level. When you reach the tunnel where the warthog gets destroyed by
plasma grenades you want to go towards the hallway that you use to reach
the hanger but don’t go down the hall. Instead, continue down the tunnel
until you come to a dead end. When you reach the dead end, you will see a
marine standing at a door asking to be let in and another marine behind
the door asking for a password. Depending on which difficulty you play on
you will have different people and different dialogue between the two
marines.
If you play on Normal or Heroic, you get Tucker and Doc from the
RvB series and if you play on Legendary you get Church and Caboose. Both
are funny and it was a good thing for Bungie to add.

Now, for the Barracks. This part of the mission can be difficult because
of the amount of Brutes that are found in this area. You mostly have to
take them head on, but there is a way to get behind most of them. When you
are about an eighth of the way into the Barracks, you will see cat walks
and ladders. Get onto the first set of catwalks and you will see a ladder
leading up into the ceiling. Climb this and you will be in a ventilation
system, be careful not to fall down any of the holes unto you get to the
dead end in the vents. When you get to the end, drop down from that hole
and you will be able to take some Brutes by surprise from behind. When you
are done with the Brutes in that area, you will see more catwalks and
another ladder leading up into the vents, repeat the process as stated
before. For the end of the Barracks though, there is no way to get behind
them through the vents that I know of since there are no vents that lead
you that far, which is unfortunate since that is where one of the Brutes
is carrying a plasma turret. Anyways, I hope this helps. Later guys.

In the same room you start in. Hanging down from the ceiling is some piping
its huge for ventilation. On top of this piping, on the side
nearest to the large display the one that Hood appears on lies the Black
Eye Skull. you get to it in a few diff. ways. i usually get it buy walking
up both sets of steps in the room and jumping on a crate that i think is
red. then this then dark green piece of metal and then the area right
above it. then you jump one more time and you are on the pipe. you walk
all the way down it and you now have the skull. o and if this is hard to
read my bad. its hard to explain in words if needed youtube it its a lot
simpler.

POD Tac Rec E FTW!

Keep on fragging choppers.

The needler is your friend. Plasma nades andspike nades will not stick to
the cheiftan, Plasma pistol/BR (noob combo) is also your best friend
against the cheiftan and always make sure to keep your distance!

%{color:silver}Skull Locations on that map:
As soon as you start, do not go underneath, go and jump up onto the rusty
pipe above you by climbing up on objects, and the skull is at the end of
it.

Other is located on the left as you fall down a wide open pipe, hard to
spot, but its there.%

also, against the flying yemmes in the cave section where the marine is
lifted up by one, rush to the left, grab the turret and fall back (its
located upo on the rock to your right as you go left)! use the turret to
mow down the yemmes.

The blackeye skull is probably the easiest skull to get. Immediatly after
the level begins look up and you will see a large pipe. The blackeye skull
is located on top of this pipe. There is a way to get on top of this pipe
at the other end of the room.

The second skull in this game is the Grunt Birthday Party skull. This one
is a little trickier to get but boy is it fun when it is turned on. To
find this skull play the level normally untill you get to the part where
you have to drop down a hole into the ventilation system. You will know
you are in the right spot when you see drones flying in and out of the
pipes in front of you. Once you get to the place described above continue
untill you get to the ledge, but don’t jump off. If you look down off the
ledge you should notice another ledge just below you, you have to land on
this ledge. Once you get on this ledge you will be able to walk under the
platform you were just standing on. If you continue under this platform
the Grunt Birthday Party skull will be waiting there for you to take.

this is darman117 sending in some skull tips for the crows nest. its my
first time sending something in, so dont be too rough on me.

First things first. At the start of the mission, when youre in the
controll room, there will be a pipe above you. Walk to the end of the
controll room where all the marines are and climb the frame infront of
them to get on to the pipe. Walk to the end of the pipe, to get black eye.
This sadistic skull lets you only regenerate your shields if you whack
enemies upside the head when it is active.

The second Skull can be found after the drone encounter in the tunnel.
When you drop off the cliff edge, just barely nudge yourself off, and
youll fall onto a little ledge with a green arrow on it. Beyond the ledge
is a hallyway with the grunt birthday party skull. This fun little thing
will make grunts explode with joy into little shreds of confetti when
given a headshot. In the background you will hear happy kids voices
cheering yay. The sound clip used for the yay happens to be from viva
piňata.

Well thats all for now,
keep on fragging meatballz

Hey guys The Bounties here. I’m a brand new member and this is my first
submission.

I havn’t finished the fight yet but this is my favorite stage so far. In
the scene before the stage i was playing co-op with my freind who had
finished the game and when the power went out i jumped out of my seat and
yelled at my freind “I wanted to see the scene!” thinking he skipped the
scene then when Truth started talking i laughed and we played the stage. The way i survived most was throwing a gernade at the jackels first then
takeing out the brutes with a BR. When you go into the room with all the
brutes talking about killing the humans you shouldn’t start shooting from
afar becuase you can walk up to them without them seeing you and yoy can
assassinate one brute and stick a second then get into cover with your
shotgun and take out any brutes that put their big monkey heads around the
corner. A funny thing to do in this stage is to get the fuel rod cannon
from the cheiftan in the place where you arm the bomb and shoot the fuel
rod at the drones in the next room and see them all explode and fall. The
BR is the best weapon to have throughout the stage and you get to use the
brute spike grenade for the first time which is fun to use.
Keep in brute spiking trucks

I think that the crows nest was a very great campaign level. There
were a lot of challenging brutes and I enjoyed wathcing them throw down
bubble shields and other equiptment. I think that the level was pretty
challenging because those damn brutes kept killing me in this one part.
The graphics are amazing and there is every little detail. Only a few days
ago I discovered there was a skull on this level where all the drones are
flying around in the pipe. Pce out guyzz!

This level starts out in a room with Sgt. Johnson. The skull in this level is easy to find and easy to score some achievment points. My favourite part of this level was the easter egg with the folks from rooster teeth performing a little skit about the password. The thing i dont like about this level is having to backtrack many times throughout the level.

Keep on fraggin trucks and keep on tippin portapotties

After riding up the elevator once you leave the barracks if you go to the
right side of the area where the brutes attack you will come to a door
where “press rb to open will pop up only for a second. If you wait there
eventually some brutes will open the door. For some reason they will not
attack you right away and are easy to kill. After killing them if you go
all the back there will be a room overlooking the battle with the jetpack
brutes that has a active camo powerup. Pick one up and keep til you to
the room where you must arm the bomb. Cloak and you can sneak behind the
Chieftain and kill him with one melee hit to the back.

Hey guys just wanted 2 say i love your podcast and i listen to every
episode. Anywho, there are two skulls on this level. The Black Eye skull,
and the Grunt Birthday Party skull. the Black eye skull is located in the
control room where you first start out. in the room there is a large pipe
with some red girder underneath it. climb on to the girder and jump onto
the pipe. walk to the end of the pipe and pick up the skull. The second
skull, the Grunty Birthday Party skull is located under the tunnel type
thing with the drones flying around in it. walk to the edge and turn
around. then very sloowwwly back up until you start to fall. Walk forward
as soon as you start to fall, and you should end up in the tunnel
underneath the walkway in the upper tunnel that you were just in. at the
end of the tunnel is the skull. Hope this helped, and keep on fraggin
trucks.

Well, Podtacular peoplez, the Crow’s Nest is the second level in Halo 3. As
you may know, Halo has not experienced any crows before, so this is a first
and a little bit awkward stage of your relationship with Africa in the far
future.
To help you survive this epic fight, I will now put in my two cents.

first, you will definitely want the Grunt Birthday Party skull on. Not
only is it a fun tool, but it drives you to get more headshots with the
BR, thus upping your score. There is an encounter as you’re on your way to
arm the bomb with well over 14 grunts in the highway thing. Scores Galore!
beyond that, skulls you turn on are up to you. Just don’t play on easy!

In the part where you go to the barracks, I think there was a mix-up in
dorm quarters. Clearly the Brutes and Marines had switched sleeping areas
the night before. Anyway, when you first make it to the barracks, and see
the pile of bodies, don’t rush in, keep listening. You can hear some
interesting remarks, and maybe even spot the Brute taking a leak in the
corner. When you get bored of this, run in and gun them down. As you go on, you
will see many aliens using Humans as teddy bears, experimenting a little
bit with their “floppiness”. Assassinate these, and soon you will get the
surviving teddy bears to safety.
After that, you will receive word that they disarmed the bomb in the ops
center, and they’re sending you to arm it again.
So here we are faced with a familiar situation. It’s basically Assault on
Zanzibar again, only with many more enemies and a bigger environment.
Also, there is no-one yelling “Bomb Guy!” as you enter, unless you got
IWHBYD on, perhaps.
After you arm it, do not be fooled. This is Campaign, so a voice won’t say
“BOMB ARMED BOMB PLANTED”, but if you don’t hurry out of there, it WILL be
Game Over. Ignore every enemy, unless you’re scoring, then hunt down every
one of them. Go downstairs to the hangar and go right. jump in the elevator
and watch as the remaining grunts yell at you, then are enveloped in fire.
Then your elevator crashes. The end, right? Wait till you get to the
bottom, and you’ll see that you were very lucky.

I just have some general tips for beating Crow’s Nest:

1) In the places on the level where you must fight through the long, enemy
filled hallway, aim for the grunts’ headpieces. Many times, the game will
count this as a head shot, and the grunt will go down immediately. This is
extremely helpful when trying to take out the turrets with the overlapping
fields of fire.

2) When clearing the hangar, don’t break off the turrets. Use them while
they have infinite ammo to mow down the Covenant forces, but get out
before the Phantoms get within range.

3) When fighting the Drone swarms remember: you’re shots pass through the
window grates into a multitude of targets easier than their shots pass
through the same window grates at you.

4) When shooting at brutes long range, aim for the juncture of their neck
with their head or chest. This area is not armored as their head and
chests are. These shots are more effective than just head or body shots.
Occasionally, this will outright kill a brute chieftain.

5) When fighting flying brutes, shoot their jump packs. The packs will
explode, dealing at least a little damage to the brute, but, more
importantly, eliminating his super mobility.

6) Shooting dropped plasma grenades causes explosions. When you know there
are a bunch of enemies in a certain place, but only managed to kill one
grunt, shoot the plasma grenade(s) he drops. This will cause an explosion
which will damage, and possibly outright kill, some of the hostiles
grouped together.

I’m in love with this mission. There’s a nice way to save yourself some
help with the later poritions…Get the cloaking from the room above the
landing pad. The entrance from the elevator to the pad also points you to
a closed door. That will open up later revealing the way to get to the
control room with cloaking and br ammo in spades. Save the cloaking for
the room with the prophet of truth and his (current) number 1 minion
talking (with the humans own comm systems…how rude). Cloak and (It’s
easier with the hammer) bash the fuel rod guy’s brains out. His gun makes
the room a swift clear after that. Also you can drag in a turret from the
room before it.

P.s. Also a tip to that marine stuck at that door…the password is a
decently sized pack of c4 and a remote detonator.

Wrap up

Until next time I’m Foo Mo Jive (and this is)
