Podtacular Episode 145: Multiplayer Tips and Map of the Month: Foundry
for the week of January 16th, 2008

(hosts foo mo, JVB, Zervon)

introductions

First of all when you start a game, make everyone count. Don’t go running
out there thinking that you are going to get all of the kills. That also
goes with watching your friends back and not calling them noobs or
something. Try and travel around together because it is easier to kill
someone if it’s two on one, but not too close together. A lot of people
keep screaming at me because I steal their kill, but if your playing Team
Slayer it’s all for the team score. If your friend is getting shot at,
help them out. also when you start a game go for power weapons to ensure
your victory. Don’t take a weapon though if one of your teamates is way
better at it than you. Finally if you treat your teamates with respect
and not yelling at them they will play better. Everyone isn’t going to be
as good as you sometimes. Thanks Podtacular, you rock! Also don’t step on
cats and keep fraggin em!

Hey, this is General Hooah again! Just wanted to say that for me, the best
tip that I would give to people about mutiplayer is that play as long as
you can, learn the area; where the best sniping spots are, where the
“essentials” are located (ie Rocket Launcher, Sniper, etc.) And, also just
have fun! Kepp on fragging trucks and keep up the good work!

When playing a matchmaking team slayer game on foundry, it is most player’s
instincts to immediately run around the corner, straight into the fray.
This is risky though, because most of the time which ever team gets their
hands on the power drain will go on to wipe out the entire opposing force.
Instead of taking this risk, get your team to head toward your sniper rifle
corner, where you can load up on grenades and weapons. It is very
advantageous to move your team on top of the various crates and boxes so
you can have the upper hand on any enemy on the lower level. From above,
you are practically untouchable by any grenades or equipment that are
thrown toward you from below.

Hey guyz, Arbitation here,

Just a very quick tip from me today,

When you are doing forge on Foundry, make sure you put all your walls and
such down BEfORE you put grav lift and man-cannons in.

Keep on fraggin’ trucks…

Shout out to all the Podtacular Marines!

I noticed that in my first post, I didn’t tell you how to pronounce my
name. The Customs/Creations/Tales from the FH episode isn’t out yet, but I
can tell you are going to mispronounce my name. Many people have tried over
Xbox Live, few have succeeded. It’s not that difficult. If you say A Z N
fast, then it sounds like Asian. And yes, I am Asian. The few people who
have succeeded pronouncing my name always ask me if I am Asian. I tell
them yes, and they either say “Cool” or they say “I’m Asian too” followed
by “No, not really, I’m -fill in other race here-”. Not trying to be
racist, just presenting some facts. Well, this is a length introduction,
followed by a length body, followed by a lengthy conclusion, but I put
some thought into this. My English teacher would be proud, but probably
not because she grades like a -insert wild animal here-. I think Yowler is
a good animal description here.

On Lone Wolves, leveling up takes a while and is near impossible in the
higher levels. But I have found some tricks to it. Whenever a match is
over, the people you just played with most likely will end up in the same
match the next time. Not all of them, usually one or two. Know how they
play and react accordingly in the next match. If you just got pwned the
match before, wait a minute or so before clicking “Start Matchmaking” to
avoid getting matched up with these awesomely amazing people, like myself.
I know this doesn’t work all the time, but I have played with the same
person 4 games in a row before I went and did Big Team Battle.

On any cooperative games, find a good team and stick with them. You will
learn each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and playing style, so you guys
can compensate. Always stick with your teammate, but not too close, or
else a well placed grenade could take you both down. Always wear a headset
when playing because coordinated attacks are better than random ones. Don’t
worry about past deaths or kills, always focus on the present, unless you
figured something out about an opponent, like “Oh, man he’s awesome at
sticking” or “Dude, did you see that no-scope of his” or “Man, that SOB
can’t use a splazer for BS.” Sorry for using harsh letters… (Quote: Dane
Cook)

I don’t have Foundry yet, but I think I’ll get the maps this weekend. This
may have already passed, depending when you are recording this episode. I
may know some Forge tips for Foundry, but I don’t know them now as I am
typing this because I haven’t gotten the maps yet. But I might have gotten
the maps already and don’t know it because I don’t know when you guys are
recording this. Lol. Confusing…

Anyways, this is my second time sending something in for the show. Hope
you guys pick this for the show. Keep on fragging cute newborn little
animals that haven’t done anything which will probably make JVB and/or Foo
Mo and/or the worthless guests groan. Don’t know how to the groan on the
computer. Is it Ohhhh or Ahhhh or Oahhhh or something like that. Maybe
Oaoaoaoahhhhh.

Hi again podtacular johne1000 again {unfourtantly} witha tip for the new
map foundry now for the default map I see this done a lot in matches
since this map has many floors and levels and ambush could happen at any
moment so get a small group as backup in case one of these acure also the
higher ground is best because throwing grenades at an arch gives the nade
a better chance of hitting the where you want it to go also ambushing is
alot of fun exspecialy when they sceam laugh out loud funny ok maybe not
lol but maybe lqts laugh Quietly to self [<:{

also one last thing there is a way to journey out of foundry where the
windows are to the right side in fourge repeadly spawn it and delete until
it goes outside also it has to be a reciver node i think but i thought it
was kool and if you already knew about this i’am sorry for wasting your
precise time.

shout to snyderman22 and keep on fraging trucks

hey podtacular peoples this is dillonchipmonkey signing in. this is not a
tip for foundry but a general tip useful in multiple maps, teamwork and
believing in your self and/or your teammates. Naw, just kidding one thing
that is important on any map is weapon control. weapon control can be a
deciding factor in any match, for example: lets say you are playing on
that map with all the levles and gravlits at every corner and you control
the sword, you will most likely rack up some major points. And also if
your playing on a map where vehicles are a big advantage then if you have
the SPNKR or splazer then you can destroy your opponents vehicles easily
and don’t have to worry about them being used against your team.

keep on fraggin potty mouths on xbox live and purple bellied one legged
chihuahua faced chipmonkeys with rabies!

yo guys its your everyday neighborhood friendly shotgun shotgunfreindly
(plz excuse the spiderman intro pun) well this weeks map is probably one
of the most well known and probably signature halo 3 maps of all time
Foundry. before i start off my tipping and usual shenanigans i would like
to point out my own little map variant of foundry called the Office. i
will not go into detail into it but i can tell you that the office has a
discussion room coupled with a table so you can slam something while
making your demands, but unfortunately no cup holders. I am however
working on that. the map also has a dueling room, a soccer court, and a
grifball area all built into it on one map. if your interested plz go and
check out the map that will hopefully be in my file share soon.

ok now into foundry. one tip that i have for you can really start your
team off with a good start. when u first spawn on the map quickly go up
the stairs ahead of u grab the power drainer, and drop it down on the
opponents side of the stairs. this will usually knock out all the other
teams shield and give your team a possible head start if they get around
in time to hit them while their down. another good tip is to always use
your radar and what you see together. on a map like foundry you have a lot
of upper levels where an enemy can be at. your radar will pick them up as
if they are right in front of you but they are not best way to balance
this is to stay aware of your area of sight. by doing this u will be
giving yourself an edge over those pesky shotgunners(i do not do this) who
hide up top to jump u.
anyways my next round of tips is for those forgers out there. many times i
play on a foundry forge map i always think to my self hmm…. this map
would be awesome if it had a second level like isolation. well i found a
way to make it to build a top floor and bottom floor. to do this make a
regular crate that u find on all other maps and place it on the ground
then place a wall on top of it delete the crate on the bottom and there u
go the wall acts like a floor that u can walk on and have fights on top
of. if you cover the entire map with these u will have a two floored map
that after adding a couple of hiding spots such as on hang em high u have
a very fun BR swat map. i am currently working on a map like this and hope
to have it done relatively soon.

also did u know that the windows in the back rooms can be removed its
amazing isn’t it?

anyways shout out to the Godtacular Bible study i would just like to thank
u guys for giving me a good time monday when i accidently jumped in. why i
jumped in why who knows maby God had a plan, but i hope to see you guys in
the future.

Keep on doing whatever it is that u like to do to that prefered thing u
like doing that thing u like doing to that thing i just mentioned before.
whoever reads this if you say it without messing up i will personally send
u a box of cookies from my house to yours im not kidding =)

Three words describe Foundry. Best forge map. And I am right aren’t I(Foo
Mo, JVB, and Co-Host zombies say yes)? Anyway, fighting on the original
Foundry can be quite the stuff. You could be walking util in the blink
ofan eye, you are BR’d down. One word for domination on this map. Spikers.
Whatever bungie employee made this map was obviously a Spiker fan. If you
dual wield, you are basically unstoppable on this close-quarters map. Of
how to take out the bad boys standing on the crates from the Voi Crate
Factory, whos motto is, “Even though its 2552, we still make crates
manually,”. Ok back to on taking out those stuffheads who stand on crates
with BR’s/ Snipers. Dos pabalbra(thats spanish for one word). Plasma
Rifle. This Plasma based weapon is quite effective at mid to half long
range I figured out. Charge the stuff head on the crate while doged fire
and returning some, when you get there your enemy is either dead or is
down to beeping red health. Jump, and give him a good spanking.

Keep on fraggin’ nub heads that say in futile attempt, “I can haz recon?”

Take a sniper and head to where the rockets are. Pick up a gravity lift,
jump on the truck, then on the box.(near rockets).
throw down the lift next to the box that has the rockets inside and jump
to the top. This is a perfect sniping place becuse you can see almost the
whole map! keep on frag’n trucks, Dr0p
Dead Nick

ok 7th submission. well foundry. I can’t say much for objective game types except for VIP.
Well anyways in VIP the VIP should go to one of the back rooms with a
close range weapon, or if you can’t secure the shotgun leave at least one
other person to guard the VIP, if someone were to attack him.while he
chills out in the room the other players should travel in a group to hunt
down the VIP. now for standard Slayer. this map is great for grenades.
there are so many walls and corners to throw grenades around. also you can
easily get on top of the boxes with an easy grenade jump. so use many
frags. this map is mainly used by my in Forge, and Grifball. it is always
fun to use the canvas to think of different things to do. I did make an
obstacle course that I had to use many grenade jumps to get to the other
boxes.any way. Grifball is awsome. good job no wait awsome job Rooster
teeth you guys rock. but when you start wait for about a second before you
run for the ball. this will prevent you from dying instantly when everyone
meets in the middle with the huge hammer festival.when you do get the ball
you can jump around easily with all of the hammer falls. when your team has
the ball send someone way ahead and clear the way. they have two other
people near the ball carrier, to really take out the others. the close
ones should use the sword to prevent the damage to your friends. now on
defense have your sword out. if you hit the ball carrier he will die
instantly with the sword. ok well that was more about Grifball. if you
haven’t played it yet download it and invite all of your friends and play
it. alright you guys rock and keep on doing this podcast for years to
come. you know what? you should film you fragging the infamous truck that
gets fragged about 8 times every podcast. that would be cool. o well
oddfluence has to go.

Party up with friends and players who have already gone past the level
you’re shooting for. Usually when I do I learn things almost every game
just by playing with them. Also look at the theatre to see how your
friends played every once in a while to see what your friends did for
tactics. It should help you to figure out what works best. Also look at
yourself to see what you’re doing wrong and try to do something else when
and if that situation arises again.

Here are some tips for the default map settings of Foundry. At first I found foundry a little confusing, it felt like a maze, and I found it difficult to communicate to my teammates where I was. When you look and play foundry, it’s deceiving, but it’s actually symmetrical, but not like Narrows or the Pit, but side by side (think horizontal).

If you take the time to explore the map without all the chaos, there are signs, landmarks and numbers that you can tell your teammates where you or your opponents are. Keep in mind, when you first start the match, your opponents will not be across the map, but in a area next to you divided by a wall. If you look face forward, you will notice two big fans on the back wall (closer to the ceiling), and under each fan are the numbers 01, 02 that divide the area in half (these number’s also appear above you when you first spawn into action). In the middle of the map/room (below where the rocket launcher spawn’s), there are two big signs with the letter’s A and B, each one having an arrow under them pointing to the left and right side of the map (Area A, Area B). You can also find these same signs (A,B) under a ramp along the side of the room. Take note, area A has a forklift and a truck in it and each side has a sniper rifle in the back corner.

Communicate, I’m finding player’s are taking advantage of all the crates and walls that you can walk and jump from.

I like to give a shout out to ChuckieJ and to everybody that participates in Godtacular, I appreciate all the effort you put into every week. I also would like give a shout out to Captain Safety at Halojunkie.net, supplying everybody’s halo fix!!!
Love the show, take care guys!

I don’t know if this is what you guys are looking for, but here goes. On
the side of Foundry with the big windows (the right side when looking from
the bases), you put a ramp as close to one of the windows. On top of the
ramp, you make a turret and place it as close as possible to the window.
Then you get on the turret, turn so you are through the window, and then i
think you just get off of it and you are out of the map.

As we all know, Foundry is a blank canvas ready to be filled. I’ve
discovered a few fun layouts and gametypes on this map. One variation is
paintball, you can set up your field however you like and make each team
start behind shield doors. The gametype should be instant kill and from
entry level plasma pistols or what I like to call hardcore, carbines. Try
to use Covenant weapons because you can see the bullets and plasma fly in
air. The other is sabotage; this gametype can also go with any map. Go
into forge and change the gamtype to assault. Make one bomb spawn and two
bomb plants closer to the defending team. The defenders obviously defend,
while attackers choose which point to attack. Spawns can be turned off if
desired but bomb arm time should be 5 seconds and fuse 20 seconds. This
takes a lot of team strategy. Shout-outs to Skarmageddon and Dweenyo.

SPARTAN-077 here, just to get this out of the way, ive never played on
Foundry, but ive seen some kool ideas to use it. One of my favorite
creations on Foundry is from the new episode of RvsB, were they build a
type of tunnel that has mini-man cannons and if you push a item in it, it
fires it out the other end . It would be fun to see what kind of ideas
people come up with. I wonder if you could put a few tanks in there…...
what ever, keep up the good work, you guys are my favorite podcast. hey
shout out to Sir gets alot, Devil and a Mexican.
keep on Tea bagging trucks,

Hi dudes ostemb0r here, thanks for the great shows & website.

My one tip on how to level up and stay there, is to only play ranked team
mathes with people of similair or higher rank to yourself. If people in
your party have a lower rank then stick to social & custom. Reason being
the system punishes you for loosing to lower ranked teams as it believes
you should be able to beat them, but will reward you for beating higher
ranked teams as they as supposed to be better than you.

With Forge, ive recentley upgraded my bungie fileshare to 24 & will keep a
batch of the best maps available on there for all to enjoy. Please check my
fileshare for the best maps from bungie favourites & the best from the
podtcular community. I like to think of it as a filesharing mother-ship
for the podtacular crew.

Hey, SPARTAN II3 again. One thing I’ve noticed is that often when people
first get on Halo 3, like, for the first time all day, they head straight
to matchmaking, and while they can still be a great player, they get
“ZOMG”! Pwned. THE SOLUTION! Before heading into your first game of the
day, do some social games, or even customs with some friends. Hey, bring
the friends with you if you want! (Make sure they have practiced and come
with a warranty.) Now, once warmed up and synched with the game, go ahead
and duke it out in ranked playlists, and trashtalk a couple n00bs or two.
Shoutout to team Xenocide, my team on our betrothed Podtacular. Seeya!

I recommend getting the Rocket Launcher and staying on the 2nd floor, that
way you won’t kill yourself if you shoot at an enemy on the ground. Later
and keep on fraggin Tom Brady’s Truck or whatever he drives.

I started off playing nothing but ranked team slayer games with my friends.
The problem with that is around 25 you start to slow down and most of the
time your friends aren’t on to get you through your hump. I have found it
is really easy to get through the ranks much faster if you play lone
wolves. Don’t worry if you have never played Lone Wolves, it is literally
that much easier to rank up it’s worth the time to go back and play lone
wolves. I was stuck at captain, and because of Lone Wolves I have leveled
up twice in two weeks. I’m now a commander.

Hi zezeka here. When I first heard about the forge capabilities of Foundry,
I thought that hundreds of different cool maps are going to be shared and
make Halo 3 an even longer lasting game. After I got the map, I
experimented with some things I saw on the Red vs Blue episode where they
tour the maps. I am trying right now to make a series of man cannons that
once you get on one, you are flung around and keep hitting more man
cannons and never touch the ground. What would also be cool is if you
could throw a grenade from one part of the map, it hits a few man cannons
and hits a guy at another part of the map. Who knows, maybe someone will
make Foundry one big circus arena. Keep up the good work guys.

with a custom map that brings back some old memories my custom map is based on the Gears of War map, gridlock and is named after it If you have ever played Gears of War and played this map you will notice
that even though it is not quite to scale and some things are different
the basic layout of my custom map is the same as the GoW map. The symetry
and weapon placement is the same and i put some turned over vehicles in it
so you GoW fans feel right at home. I even made a custom game called what else but Gears of War to go along
with the map
All of it is in my file share my gamertag is Absentscope Keep on fragging people with preasent scopes

There is a remake of almost evry small map from Halo 1 and Halo 2, they can
be found at forgehub.com. Those are the best remakes of each map.

Keep on fragging trucks (which ar placeable on foundry!)

Going and staying at a high level may sound hard but it’s not, my main tip
for leveling up is to play team doubles or Lone wolves. If your playing
doubles always go in with a friend never go in with someone you don’t
know, stay together and double team the enemy, last communication is key
to winning. For Lone Wolves I would say is throw gernades in to the
hotzone this will score you easy double kills and killing sprees, 2nd you
want to grab a close range weapon such as the shotgun, or a mauler and
just find a hidding spot near the hotzone, finally crouch walk this will
almost garuntee your enemy will forget you and look somewhere else. These
may sound like simple tips but the enemy usually forgets to use the and
just rush in. And for my final, and best tip for team doubles is always
remember if your winning slightlly do not rush in let them come to you
there is no good reason for you to rush in there the one’s who have
something to lose. Keep on fragging trucks.

I really enjoy the default settings for Foundry; it makes for short, quick
bursts of chaotic madness and hasn’t got boring yet. It’s a winner.

Players will not stay alive for very a long on this map; it’s just one
of those things players are going to live with. The layout for Foundry
doesn’t allow for much hiding room if you really want to get in on the
action. There are a lot of spots to “get the upper hand” but since the
Heroic DLC playlist has so many players playing at once, that upper hand
won’t last very long.
Keep moving and play smart, don’t keep yourself open. Be aware of where
the other team is spawning because the map seems to do a lot of random
spawns making enemies come all corners of the map, which is both good and
bad because chances are your team will be getting the same kind of spawns.

VIP works very well on this map, because of the back alleyways on both
sides of the map. It’s entertaining to guard your VIP or storming your
opponent’s VIP. Since the map is so chaotic one thing a player could do
to have the upper hand in a VIP match would be too have a good since of
surroundings. Taking the time to play by yourself (and no not like the
JVB) and just walking the map to find little cover points, and good
grenade hopping spots will do wonders in VIP game types on this map.
Oddball is another fun game type that works well with Foundry. It’s fun
because the map is so chaotic, even though it is hard to hold your ground
at times during a slayer game type, Oddball is kind of the complete
opposite. It is possible to take up a good position on the map, typically
near either of the snipers, and hold the ball long enough for some good
points. But as always just be aware of where your enemies are on this
map.

One general tip for Foundry, is GET THE BATTLE RIFLES!, even though the
map may seem to be very small, it is open enough to make any Battle Rifle
expert have a hay-day.
Granted all of these tips are for the Default Setting for Foundry but they
should be able to help those in need.
I’m gonna go back to my latin lovelies, keep on fragging everything
under the son Podtac.

dont say things like you suck or get more kills to your team and if someone
says that to you mute them or just ignore them. saying useful things like 1
shot at snipe tower at guardian is at least useful and can help your team
get more points. telling your team that they suck will usually make them
play even worse. plus the guy with 5 points on the team might have died
only 2 times and be the only player actually going positive.

Hello Podtacular! Its GeeMaknee01 here and im gunna give you some simple
tips for acheiving a positive KDR in Halo 3. These tips might sound like
common knowlege but hopefully someone will try them. Ok for my first
tip….. RADAR….. when im playing on any map i constantly look at my
radar. and if you have played enough halo3 then you will probably have the
maps memorized. so when you see that giant red blob on your radar you can
tell exactly where he’s at. this brings me too my next tip… when you see
this enemy on your radar and you know he will be coming through the door/
around the corner/ or sheild door. etc. you can bank a nade off of a wall
next to you while backing up. Your enemy will see your blob on their radar
and hopefully rush you which means that they will be running right in front
of the grenade. then you just finish them off. I have used this trick in
hot situations and when my sheild was empty to achive a kill…. and if
you die… = ( you will drop thier sheilds and hopefully your teammate
will finish them off with one shot, or two, or three, whatever works. And
if anyone wants to play some halo you can send me a Friend request
anytime… thats GeeMaknee01… peace, and keep on fraggin’ trucks?

Wrap up

Until next time I’m Foo Mo Jive (and this is)
