Campaign Tips

========SPELCHEK==========

I don’t know if anyone watches “Cheat on G4 TV but they tell you how to get the Scarab Gun on the metropolis level. It involves luring a banshee into the tunnel with a ghost. then wacking it into the circle. as it says loading”jack the banshee and fly outta the tunnel. Fly up to the twin bridges and you’ll see an orange cone with a floating plasma riffle above it…This is the holy grail of Halo 2 weapons. Infiniate ammo and the power to waste a tank in 2 secs. It’s dangerous though to use, like rockets… Also in a brocken building, there is a soccer ball that you can kick around with the banshee’s fuel rod gun.

Ask Podtacular

First off, I love your show. I recently started playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live, and some of your tips have helped me out tons. As a relative n00b in online console shooters, I have a few new-player type questions I was hoping you could help me with. First off, since I don’t have a headset I play a lot of slayer and oddball, usually on pretty small maps. I often get caught with my back turned to pursuers, and am often killed before I can turn around and return fire. In PC shooters this sort of thing isn’t as much of a problem, but the slower turning rate nessecitated by the console controller can make it difficult to pull a 180 before you get whacked in Halo 2. Is there any way around this? Secondly, I downloaded episode 16, “Coag and Combos,” just for the hell of it. Spellcheck talks about ‘the n00b combo’ a lot, but he never actually explains what it is. Maybe everyone else in the online Halo 2 is already familiar with it, but as a relative newcomer I would appreciate an explanation.

General Tips

When JVB’s comment reminded me of all the people who dislike the sword, I remembered this advice: if a grenade blows a weapon off the map BEFORE it is ever picked up, it will NEVER respawn!!

This means that if you hate anyone using the sword (or sniper or whatever) on Lockout, just lob a coupla frags down to the spawn before anyone gets there, and the sword will go flying out of both the map and the match.

Newb tip- Have your eyes checked before you first play Halo 2 online, just to make sure that you arent colorblind

========FOOMO==========

It’s great to know weapon placement, but do you know grenade placment? You could be noob comboing from here to eternity, but you wouldn’t want to find your self in a position where you need grenades, but don’t have any.

2 isn’t allways better then one. Now combos are good in some situations, like short range combat. But get out to about midrange, and you’ll find that combos aren’t all that effective anymore. Not only that, but using any sort of 2 handed combo is less accurate then holding only one weapon. It also takes you longer to whip out a grenade when holding 2 weapons.

Watch the blast cores. Blast cores are great for taking an enemie’s shield as he passes one. I believe that it take only one BR shot to make one explode. Either shoot one as your prey walks by, or try and drop one on top of him from above.

Liers do prosper. IT’s easy to psyche out the other team. Just “accidentally let it slip” that you guys have snipes or rocket. Just don’t let them see through your lies. Thie tactic can backfire, so use with care.

Map of the Week: Ivory Tower

When playing objective games, you need to own the power weapons. Sniper is at the top of the lift, rockets are at the bottom of the water fatt, and sword is a floor below rockets.

You need a good sniper to take out any opposition, as well as take the rockets to blow any group of enemies half way to kingdom come. Sword is somewhat handy for the half of the level with the lone lift, but looses effectiveness on the other half of the map.

You want to get a BR, as well as some sort of SMG-something combo going. BR is at the top of the dual lifts.

Take the overshield, before someone else does.

Try not to go out into the center court. It is very easy to get ambushed and killed.

Try and stay togeather. Always have someone cover your butt. It’s harder to get ambushed if you are
sticking with a buddy.

Now, I don’t condone being cheap or anything, but camping at the lift with the plasma pistol could ammount to some easy kills…

You don’t have to take the ramps to the top level. There are airlifts there for a reason you know.

If you can master it, snipe down the hallways.

If you are hunting an enemie down, watch your radar. Make sure he isn’t around the corner waiting to ambush you before running in guns a blazing.

========SPELCHEK==========

Dualing Needlers actually works well in the hallways, it works becuase it is in a small space, there is little room to strafe.

The lift is a great place to camp providing there is radar on.

Don’t forget the overshield!

The BR is overlooked in most games with SMG start, pick it up to rule the upper hallways and ‘park’ area with ease.

The sword and rocket launcher have short respawn times, so if you drop one of them is not in play expect it to be there when you check for it!

Thats all for now, and ya, I am a star! Proud tip sender since episode ten!

If you need a staregy for Ivory Tower, here’s my best general/n00b tip…STICK WITH YOUR GOSH DARN TEAM!!! If you get the sniper, the shotty, or the sword, just like everywhere else you will pwn on this map…

All I can say for slayer tips, is mater the n00b combo if you like it, and master any plasma weps if you don’t. A few Plasma Riffle shots and a quick melee can do wonders in the eclosed fighting spots in this map.

STAY THE FRIZZNAPS OUTTA THE OPEN, ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE HAS THE SNIPER!!!!!

Yo, Overshield pwns here, watch out for the n00b combo… as for the BRs either get them, or make sure not to fight someone with them from a distance.

Make sure you know this map, inside and out. Even if you hate it, because it’ll save your butt on more then one occasion to know where stuff is.

ROCKETS PWN! The overshield respaws quickly, so check back every so often.

If ever without any weapon that you like…Take up the plasma riffle. This has become one of my fav weapons, for it’s quick shield kills.

I’ve got a useful tip for Ivory Tower, but it’s rather tough to explain, so try to stay with and I’ll be as descriptive as possible. Here goes:

In any Team Slayer game it’s a near certainty that one team will try to hold the balcony at the top (Where the sniper spawns), mainly because the team who owns that spot, is the Team with the tactical advantage. If you happen to be on the unlucky team who does NOT own the spot, then I’ve got a near foolproof plan to help you take control of the game.

First, load up on frags, you’ll need at least two, but the more the better (You might also want a BR or Shotgun if things go awry.). Now, the game plan. Head through the doorway on the side of the map with the shotgun, so that you’re on the ramp leading up to the balcony. Throw a frag in such a way that it will bounce and detonate somewhere near your entrance to the balcony. This will get their attention, now fire a few more shots to show you mean business. If you have more than one frag remaining, then you can go ahead and throw one more ‘nade to do a little more damage and drive them back a little further. After you’re done with your grenade lobbing you can make what looks like a cautious retreat. Try to make them think you’ll be coming back in few seconds. The purpose of that little excercise was to drive them back to the other side of the balcony, and make them take up defensive positions so that they can effectively defend against your next attack (Which you won’t really be making.) Now that they’ve hopefully retreated to their cover, you can move into the next phase of the plan. If all is going well, they should be behind cover carefully watching the hall you were just in. Now, go down the outer ramp so that you are directly underneath the balcony but still on the side you attacked from before. From down there, throw one grenade up so that it bounces off the back wall and lands right in the middle of their crowd. If you have another grenade, throw it off the the back wall again but at a different angle so that it lands somewhere else on the balcony. This way you can cover all your bases. (Those two ‘nade throws should be done in quick succession, so that they don’t have to time to realize what’s happening and run away.).

As farfetched as it sounds, this actually works out flawlessly for me 9 out of 10 times.

========FOOMO==========

Hey Podtacular! On Ivory Tower, you can actually get stuck on top of the Over-Shield side air lift. To do this, stand on the ledge at the top of the lift and crouch-jump towards the corner of the wall at the end of the air lift. If done correctly, the lift will get you stuck on the ceiling. This really doesn’t serve any strategic purpose, but when people come up the lift you can assasinate them and get some cheap laughs when the other team freaks out about where you are hiding.

My tip for Ivory Tower is in Double Team Have you and your teammate get sword and you get shotgun (or the other way around) and both of you go to the top level. Each of you go against the wall so that when someone comes up the elevator and walks foreward they are right in front of you. This way you can cover the hallways too because one teammate can see one hall and you can see the other. This way all entrances to the top level are covered. However you may want to have a BR or secure the rockets before going up. Worked in my Halo 2 tournament that I held with my cousin and I against two other people. He made this idea work so i cant take all of the credit but he doesn’t have a live gamertag yet for me to give you guys.

i have a tip for ivory tower CTF. in ctf offense one guy must go up and get sniper and automatically take out the defense player that is rushing for rockets. the other offense player gets the sword. the player with the sword will go to the flag on the oversheild side after picking up the oversheild and BR. the sniper will provide cover from the bottom shotgun side. after the swordguy gets the flag he runs over to the shotgun side while the sniper is covering him. then the flag carrier goes up the shotgun ramp and dropes down. he then scores the flag.
On defense one guy gets the rockets and camps in a corner near the flag and doesnt let anyone touch the flag. the other player gets oversheild and combo. he then makes his way to the sniper and takes it out. once the sniper is gone the offense has lost one of the key weapons. then you camp at and around the flag for the remainder of the game.

In team slayer you must have 1 rocketman, 2 br/combo men and a sniper. if you can get your hands on a sword do so but dont worry becuase swords are useless against combo and br. make sure to communicate with your team. i have some locations that make it easy for you to say where you died or where the enemy is:
bottom shotgun
top shotgun
sniper 1 (bottom of lift)
sniper 2(where the plasma pistol respawns)
sniper 3(where the sniper respawns)
back hardwood(above the flag point)
front hardwood(above the rocket)
bottom oversheild(ramp)
top oversheild(ramp near plasma pistol)
airlift
Circle(near rocket reload)

if your team knows all of these positions then it is easyer to win becuase you are never suprised

========SPELCHEK==========

Tip for Ivory tower. In a snipers or slayer game, when you get the sniper do not stay in the tower!! There is a very limited line of vision from the balcony, and that’s where everyone will expect you to be. Go to the opposite side of the map, on the floor, beneath the walkway where the Plasma Pistol and plasma grenades spawn. Move around to check the open area in the middle, both sides, and the tower. It’s an excellent spot.

Oh Em Gee, I love Ivory Tower! Okay, so random tip #1: in SWAT, stay in the middle area where the rocket ammo is and toss frags (which respawn there) up onto the upper balcony, because there will ALWAYS be someone there, and especially if you bounce them into the halls on either side, the explosion will almost always catch someone. It so awesome when you just chuck a frag up into a random hallway, and you hear DOUBLE KILL! TRIPLE KILL! PODTACULAR! :-D

Tip #2: Know the map! I was playing split screen with my friends the other day and I totally ROMPED them on Ivory Tower, because I knew exactly where the power weapons were, and even when I lost them,, I could run and doge to new areas, or throw s blindly at them because I knew what area the little radar dot actually meant. This is especially usefull when camping the elevator, because you can judge which floor they’re on by the movement of their dot.

Tip #3: While everyone always seems to rush the sword at the start of a match, it takes a surpisingly long while for people to go for rockets, and on this map, rockets can pwn the sword any day.

Tip #4: Great hiding spot for Hide and Seek – when looking at the bottom of the elevator, turn left and go down to the boxes at the end of the hall. if you push them into the little recess a bit, you can hide there and never get caught (unless the juggernaut is smart and always check there cuz he hides there).

Random Tip of the Week

Never piss into the wind.
